Guest guest
Oh, , I don't feel so strong right now. I am so tired. I am so confused. It is so hard to see my child in pain and not feeling well. What do I do now? Jodi Re: Max is HOME!!! > From: Al72569@... > > Jodi , > I am glad to hear you are home. Guest guest
Rest? What is that? It seems like every time I close my eyes, Max is in some sort of pain. I have now convinced him that it would do him some good to play Nintendo 64 in his room. I told him that Nintendo can help him feel better for a little while. Do you think it will work? Poor kid is doubled over in pain every single time he eats. He has gone from 34.4 kilos (about 75 pounds) down to 32.7 kilos (about 72 pounds). That is a big weight loss for a week. I need sleep and support through this. I know you are going through your own hell - and believe me, I thought about you a lot while I was in the hospital with Max. We had a private room, so it was quiet and I could do a lot of thinking. Maybe you and I should go off together for a nice, long vacation - marguaritas are on me!!! Guest guest
Grandma Ann, Not only is Dr. H. emailing me, I received a phone call last night at 11:00 because Dr. H. had called the fellow who is on call this week and lectured him about supporting us. (She is still in Hawaii!) He immediately called me, checked on Max, advised me further, and will call back today. What a wonderful feeling to know that these doctors really care! Guest guest
Danna, There are ways for you to see Dr. H. Have you read about them on this site? I know there is something called Angel Flight. Her secretary, Niashia can tell you about it. She can also arrange for you to stay at the Mc House for $20 a night. And if you need GHT but cannot afford it, the drug companies have ways of getting them for you. Don't give up hope. Have you emailed Dr.H. yet? She does reply. If you need her email address, I can give it to you. Guest guest
Danna, Ask Jim Linn. He has made the trip a couple of times. I think the Mc House is close enough to the hospital that you can walk. It is a very safe area. My daughter and I walked outside whenever my husband could come in with her and he could stay with Max. My sister also lives near the hospital (well, 7 blocks away) and walked over there to visit us. If you are really insecure, you can always take a taxi, but don't be afraid. Guest guest
I don't blame you for being scared. It took me until Max was 4 or 5 to be able to even drive into the city. I used to have my mother or husband drive me because I was terrified that I would get lost and wind up in Harlem, surrounded by a gang or two. Now, from experience, I am able to drive without too much trouble. The taxis are a pain; the double-parked trucks get in the way. But I am getting bolder. I wish I could tell you not to worry. I know you will worry. I would, too, if I had not grown up just outside of NYC and just taken it for granted. I remember my first time going to Atlanta, as a freshman in college, and thinking that Atlanta wasn't even a city - I thought all cities were like New York! But I assure you that NYC is safe as long as you know where you are going and don't let on that you are scared. There is a certain way to walk, to look confident, and you will be just fine. Those of us who have been there can help you along. Just let us know when and if you decide to go. We will give you lots of pointers....pointer #1-Go when the weather is warmer. The days are longer, so you will have more daylight to walk around in. It is definitely safer then. pointer#2-take a taxi from the hotel directly to the hospital front door. Then when you leave, there are taxis just waiting to take people away from the hospital. It is easy. Trust me. Guest guest
Jodi, You are so sweet, I e-mailed her over the weekend and I did get a response. I tried to forward it yesterday, I'll go the onelist site and see if it made it through. I do have more ?'s though. Does the Mc house provide transportation from the Mc house to the Dr.s office? I know at T.C. s they would call security from the hospital and they would send one of the security staff in a golf-cart type vehicle and take you to the main entrance. This trip is looking like it just may be doable. I still have to convince my husband, I'd hate to think he might be the fly in the ointment, but he just might be. Thanks again for all your help, You are a truly wonderful person. Guest guest
Jodi, Some co-workers/supervisors can be so callous when it comes to our childrens health. If only they had children who like us have had more than our share of Dr's visits. You can bet if they did they would show a bit more compassions to us. I have had a similar problem. When my son was 6 months old he had severe bronchitus and had to be admitted to the hospital. After I came home (2 days later) my boss wanted me to come right in to work and to leave my son with a sitter (he was still on the nebulizer and medications and still running a fever) they thought he almost had pneumonia. I told her all of the above and she had me bring into the office while I worked. I left after a few hours, because it started to make me mad that I had to put my job before my son and that I was made to feel guilty. Guest guest
Dennise, I don't know how I do it all. I think I compartmentalize it all and try to do what makes me feel the best. This list is probably the best thing to happen to me in a very long time. I cannot thank you enough for all you did to get it started.... Speaking of being a " wonderful mom... " I had a rather stressful afternoon. I received a phonecall from the secretary at school, wondering if I will be back on Thursday because there are some visitors coming to the school. I had to tell her that I just don't know because we are taking Max to another specialist tomorrow and I don't know what tests he will want to run. I also told her that I am doing everything possible to keep Max out of the hospital right now and that Max needs me to be here to ensure that. (Dr. Harbison wanted him readmitted and put on IV fluids. I am keeping Max hydrated by making him drink Gatorade every hour whether he wants it or not. He does not need the IV if he keeps drinking.) I told her that I can almost guarantee that I will be there for at least the first period (when the principal shows visitors around), but I could not guarantee the rest of the day depending on the tests that need to be run. I also told her to tell the principal to call me if she had any concerns about my being out. Okay, time passed. I did not receive a phone call. Then another teacher called me to check on Max and me and mentioned a comment made by the principal this afternoon. The principal wanted to know why I am always with Max - why can't my husband take over!!!!!! I am so angry! Not only is my husband just starting a new job, but he is the major breadwinner of this household and just cannot take off whenever he wants to. wasn't even here for Max's surgery because he had job demands that had to be met! This person wants me to leave my son alone for these tests, or make my husband take off work, so that I can be there for her showcase?!!! Forget about it! My children come first and foremost. Whew! I just had to get that off my chest! Jodi Re: Max is HOME!!! > > > Jodi, > > I'm so glad to hear that you and Max are home from the hospital. Guest guest
I most certainly will stick to my guns. NO ONE comes between me and my children. I know I am a good teacher, she has told me so many times, and I will not be threatened. I will worry more about it tomorrow after we see the doctor. Max was in so much pain at dinner that he could not eat the soup I gave him. We are in for a long, long night. Guest guest
Thank you. I needed that support. I just received an email from Dr. Harbison. She is trying to prepare us for possibly having to admit Max to the hospital again. I have to say that and I are on edge right now. Maybe it is good that he started his new job. He can focus on that and I can focus on Max. That is how we function best. Jodi Re: Max is HOME!!! > > > Jodi, > > I give you credit for standing up for what you believe.
