,

I have " Eat Well, Feel Well, " and you're right -- there are

some great recipes in it.

I can only tell you that I have never used Italian tomatoes or tomato

sauce. I have only used tomato juice, per BTVC, or fresh tomatoes which I

cook down.

I did try the Muir Glen organic tomatoes which were quite the rage on

some of the lists (rage as in there was a lot of discussion about them) a

few years ago, and had a reaction to them, so decided I would not use

canned tomato products.

My feeling is that if you are using commercial products and have a

reaction (either you or your son), then I would pull the commercial

products, no matter who vouches for them, and go to all homemade. Then,

cautiously, just as if you were adding new foods at the beginning of the

diet, you can add items back and see what happens.

Since your son is 13, and at an age where peer influence can be a major

factor, are you certain he hasn't had any true illegals on the sly which

could be causing the problem?

We all make mistakes in our first year. My best one was trying to

substitute regular cottage cheese (carefully washed) for Dry Curd Cottage

Cheese until I learned that I could use well-dripped yogurt instead. I

honestly thought I could wash the illegals off it.... <wry

grin>

You might want to start keeping a food diary (or having your son keep

one) to see if you can track the problems.

Cara,

You need letters hand signed letters stating the ingredients.

, I would suspect anything already prepared first and just exclude them until he is doing better for awhile. then if you still need to use them and want to find out if it's any of them add one at a time. Someone on pecanbread a couple months ago also found that the canned tomato products that Kendall said were okay, caused her problems. Katy

Kendall Conrad claims that tomato sauce and other canned foods from

Italy can be SCD legal because in Italy they have to put every

ingredient on the label, no matter how small the amount. I have been

using bionature brand organic strained tomatoes (in a bottle) and bionature diced tomatoes (in a can) as well as Pomi tomatoes (in the

little carton) -- all from Italy, and all appear to be SCD legal. Any

opinions on whether Italian canned foods are truly legal would be

greatly appreciated. I've been doing some questioning of our staple

foods since my son has had a small relapse.

Thanks,
