Hi Tim

welcome to the group... we have ppl here from all walks of life and countries...

l am from Norway but live in the US.. lots from England..

just watch the posts and have a good time and learn at the same time..

Hugzz Rita

New Member.

Well I have just joined and guess it's international but with mostly

US members.

I am type 1 and was diagnosed 2 years ago. I hope the group will help

with some of my concernes.

I lead a very active life working as a manager in a local electricity

distribution company in Barnstaple England.

I tend to ride high a lot of the time because of meetings, my hypo

time of day tends to be around 10:30 so I underdose. I take regular

trips to Europe in the summer months to persue my hobby and leave

home at all manner of unsociable times esp early mornings.

I'am 43 and so far all checks I have had have been on the positive

side, eyes, feet etc.

Can anybody help with local groups, support? (England of course)

Would love to exchange experiances.

Cheers,

Tim.

hi tim

when i was in england i found the British Diabetic group pretty supportive.

but at the end of the day u still need to read up on your own try getting

hold of dr bernestein's Diabetes solutions its a great wealth of info. if

you are very lucky u will find the dr who will tell u about low carb

eating. but take one day at a time and stay away from the sugar freec hocs

at boots they still made my Bs go uppp. regards cheeky

Tim...how often do you test, and when? You shouldn't be having hypos; if

you are, your insulin dosing isn't correctly adjusted. What kinds of

insulin do you take? Do you match your insulin to the carbs you're

eating at each meal or do you do it the other way around -- take a set

dose of insulin then eat to keep up with it? The latter way does tend

to cause hypos, although U.S. doctors tend to dose this way, and it's

very hard to get good control this way. IMHO, that's why there are so

many diabetics with complications. .

OTOH, having high BGs a lot of the time can ultimately cause

complications.

wow Tim

let me start on the -ve any Bs long term over 7 will lead to diabetic

complications. u are averaging on the higher number not a good idea if u

want to stay clear of kidney, eys, skin neuropathy problems. the list is

considerably longer but i just focused on the main issues.

unfortuanltely don't want to lecture but we can't afford to say what the

heck!! yes we live once but i want QUALITY all the way.

insulin is not the ticket to eat. i talke 4 shots but try not to overdose

for that cheese cake etc!mmmmm! love to but that is not the route believe me

been there done that! never again ! the price for 10 secs of taste is

tooooooooo high.

there are others on the list who will give you excellent advice. but i would

say read dr bernestein's book Diabetes solutions carefully then decide what

u want for yourself

Cheers cheeky

has discharged me and I am under the care of my GP team. My

consultant was delighted with my progress thus the discharge. He was

really impressed with my attitude and my 6 month average of 9mmol. It

may be a couple over 7 but it's under a fair bit to. Yes I did a

wedding and was a bit high, Iv'e stopped smoking, not east you know,

I am 6' and 11 and a half stone and like I say a kid getting to grips

with it and quite well as well. If I feel I need to underdose thats

whatIwill do to be relistic and practical about my condition. Nobody

is purfect but I have a reasonable grasp of the situation and a damn

good life. I am not going to get bogged down on the finer detail just

going to live a little and enjoy, better get a copy of Dr Bernestien.

Cheers,

Tim.

people here. It is so awesome thqt you quit smoking. I quit 21

Welcome . I wish I could quit smoking. My hubby quit smoking when the

prices went up in January. Itis never too late to go after anything you want

bad enough. I went back to high school to finish up a couple of classes I

needed to graduate 10 years after I would have graduated. I finished up and

graduated ( with his permission) with my youngest brother. Went through the

ceremony and all. It was worth every minute. It is too bad we cannot go to

school later in life when we realize it really does matter. So I applaude you.

I need to find a pool close by that I can swim in. One where no one can see me.

I am afraid afraid I would scare people to death if they saw me in a suit. But

anyway welcome and be sure you will get the guidance and the support you are

looking for.

Welcome the the group, . I am new here, too, but already like it a

lot. Keeping a positive outlook can make a world of difference. I have had

fibro for about 30 years. It took a big turn for the worse 10 years ago, but I

am dealing with it.
