Guest guest
Hello floradora@... (Floradora), In reference to your comment: è I hope I didn't offend anyone. Like I said, I'm thrilled to è get the information. I'm one of those who think it was è rotten of them to put out a video instead of an updated è version of the book. The info sent through is very è helpful, but I have to mention the other side of things è because there are copyright issues out there. We all è quote BOS, Vera, and others all the time. But taking è what would amount to several pages of a book is a è different thing than quoting a rule or definition here and è there. Didn't mean to ruffle feathers. Just trying to be è a responsible list moderator. Trisha: I didn't mean to offend anyone either. I'm not a member of AAMT and never have been. I had no idea they were getting so ugly. I was thrilled for the information as well since AAMT doesn't seem to be in any hurry to publish a new version of BOS. I understand about copyright laws, but if AAMT's goal is to have medical transcriptionits all be consistent, the sharing of information with everyone is necessary. I certainly understand what you are saying about what amounts to be several pages of a book, but on the other hand, this new information is on video, not printed word, and I personally would consider it more like giving a review of a movie; however, I also recognize the fact that AAMT might not see it that way. On the other hand, from what I've seen of their new rules, common sense, good grammar, and good sentence structure seem to have gone right out the window. Again, I'll repeat my feeling that if AAMT wants all MTs to transcribe things the same way, then they should publish a new BOS so it's right there in black and white for all to see, and in addition, make it readily available to all MTs whether they are members of AAMT or not, and not charge an exorbitant amount of money for it. Some might consider my statements grounds for a lawsuit, but last I checked, we live in a free country with freedom of speech. Trish, I certainly can understand you're wanting to be a responsible list moderator, and I would love to know whether the information given was a verbatim transcript of the video, or simply an outline in the writer's own words of what was contained in the video. If the latter is the case, then that SHOULD satisfy the copyright laws. I'm curious... Does AAMT consider that video to be a valid replacement of a printed book? Guest guest
I don't know. But taking a large portion is different than just a line or two. I hope I didn't come across as rude. I just have been around long enough to have seen AAMT get very angry over things like this and would hate to see anyone get into trouble. Personally, I appreciate the information. But having seen a few things in the last few years I just thought I should bring it up. I really think that if there was a problem with the AAMT material it wouldn't matter to them that this is a group of MTs sharing information. I've seen legal action threatened over someone copying info from a local chapter AAMT newsletter. I've also seen legal action threatened over someone putting down the organization in an email list. I have no idea where you draw the line, I just think that it wouldn't be very nice of me not to mention what I know, if for no other reason than to keep the integrity of this list. I hope I didn't offend anyone. Like I said, I'm thrilled to get the information. I'm one of those who think it was rotten of them to put out a video instead of an updated version of the book. (Floradora), In reference to your comment: è did you get permission to post this to the list from è AAMT or the person who put it together? I know in the è past that AAMT has not appreciated their stuff being è copied at all without their permission and I'd hate to è see anyone get into trouble. Interesting point, but I have quoted BOS on this list on several occasions in the interest of documenting the source for clarification for one's employer. Does this mean I'd need to ask permission from AAMT every time I do that? Or for that matter, would I need to ask permission from Stedman's or Vera Pyle's publisher? Where do we draw the line? I could be wrong (and often am), but as long as a nod is given to where the info came from I don't see the harm in it, especially since this list is for sharing information. Guest guest
I wonder if the fact that the information was given in the name of AAMT. They did get the credit for it which may make some newcomer interested in joining or at least looking into their association? What do you think. Guest guest
I'm still waiting on an answer to that. I'll send it along as soon as I get it.
