a,

There are many wonderful sites on the Internet that have many non boring

recipes (including desserts!) and also give the nutritional values per

serving. I have a few that I am including with this:

<A HREF= " http://hometown.aol.com/terranova0/KitchenRecipes1.html " >The Village

Kitchen Low Carbohydrate Recipes</A>

<A

HREF= " http://diabeticgourmet.com/recipes/Holidays_and_Special_Occasions/Christma\

s/ " >Christmas Recipes : Diabetic Recipe Archive From The Diabetic Gourmet

Magazine</A>

<A HREF= " http://www.lightandtasty.com " >http://www.lightandtasty.com</A>

Just do a search on your search engine and type in diabetic recipes. There

are thousands of sites. Just be careful though and make sure that they give

the nutritional values so that the food can be figured into your diet.

F-diabetic cooking has turned me into somewhat of a gourmet cook

Ok, I can not express how much hearing everyone express their concern and

understanding of what is happening to me right now make me feel better about

my future. I am actually a very positive person and happy most of the time

through my days. I hold vice-presidency in my college sorority, and play

intermural soccer and hold a 3.5 GPA. I am pretty busy but I love staying

that way. I plan to keep it all up even now and I feel better when my mind is

on other things and not always my diabetes. I have experienced the emotion

change in correlation to my high or low blood sugar levels. I feel better

knowing that my mood swings are mostly because of my fluctuation blood sugar

levels. I am getting my eating habits under control and I am taking the

advice of all of yall' in only eating about 100 grams of carbs a day to avoid

shots. I have been eating like this the past few days: I take a thyroid pill

in the morning now because I have also just been diagnosed with an

under-active thyroid... so after waiting one hour after taking it I eat:

Breakfast: one piece of toast (16 grams) = 1

Carb.

egg whites (no carbs)

Lunch: Salad with lots of vegies (no/low carb.)

maybe a chicken breast

Snack: vegies or fruit (no/low carb. except

fruit which rises my blood sugar a little)

Dinner: Salad with vegies. chicken stir fry

or something with only one or two

serving of carbs.

~So, what do yall' think?

I worry that this food is pretty boring so I might get sick of it and

trigger a binge session. I never had any sort of eating problem until 2

months ago (my diagnoses). I hated doing it and I will not loss control like

that again, but I don't want to eat so bland that I just want to say " f^#$%@

it " and eat as much bread or potatoes (I love em') as I can.

~I am encouraged that so many of yall' think I will be able to successfully

carry a child someday. Does any one with experience know how nerve racking it

is to carry a child while being diabetic and worry about the baby growing too

big inside you? Would it prevent me from wanting alot of kids? I had at one

time planed to have around 5 kids...someday! :)

~ I will try to cut down the length or these e-mails sorry so long! :)

a, please, just take one child at a time. If you have time before you

start this odyssey of child rearing, try to read Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes

Solution. It can answer a whole lot of questions. You sound a whole lot

better today - keep on truckin' - you'll get there.

**I think you need more protein and/or fat, or you're going to totally run

out of energy. With a low carb diet, you need an energy source from

somewhere. If you truly have an eating disorder, this may be really

difficult for you, but do it. Running out of energy without enough calories

(and you're an ACTIVE person!) will wear you down, you'll get depressed,

emotional, binge and purge, etc., etc. You need to eat enough calories to

keep you energetic and cheerful. Close your eyes and just do it :-)

Other good news is that as you progress in your low carbing, the cravings

for carbs go away - this can take up to a week. So hang in there. This is

your life, a, so saying #$%^%^ & could mean an early end, or almost

worse, big risk for complications. I'd be glad to list them, if you haven't

heard them before: blindness, amputation - first legs, than arms, heart

disease, stroke, death, and lots of charming stuff in between. More good

news is that hypothyroid tends to go along with diabetes, so once you get

your bg's in control for awhile, it might improve. Mine for whatever

reasons (I am in good control) goes up and down through the years for no

reason myself or my doc can figure. I'm off meds for now, later I might go

on a little, or a lot, then reduce it, it's pretty weird. The moral for me

is to get a blood test for thyroid every 3 months, so we can change my meds

(or not) accordingly.

**Boredom is no excuse, however.......there are tons of recipes, snack

ideas, meal ideas, etc. in our shared files. The link for this and other

good stuff is at the bottom of each message. You know, with your busy

lifestyle, you might be better off " grazing " , that is eating several smaller

meals per day (protein, girl!). If they are mostly low carb, you should

metabolize them just fine and keep your bg's level with no change of lows.

Low carb nuts are a great snack. Really, if your not eating many carbs, the

fat will not hurt you, I promise!!!

And you're not posting too long - ever. It's a pleasure knowing you really

want to get a handle on this thing. I've found those who have the most

concerns and ask the most questions, seem to get in and stay in good control

the fastest.
