Does anyone use popcorn? We were in the beggining but took it away

when seizures weren't improving. Our dietician was never really sure

of the proper numbers because of popped verses unpopped. I wondered

if anyone was using the numbers off from the stanford meal planner or

had different ones. I'm going to add it back in now with him getting

improved seizure control since dropping meds. which was obviously the

problem to begin with. Thanks to everyone who pointed that out!

we're on our second Topamax reduction only one more to go, on that

drug and his seizures have went from 19-24 per week to 5 with first

drop the week before last and only one since this weeks drop. Boy

its nice to finally see some results, to think if we would have stuck

with only a three month commintment we would have given up too

quickly.

I cant help with any values for popcorn since our numbers are different

but just wanted to say that it increased seizures for Mike (at least I

think it did slightly - things got better when we stopped but not

entirely sure if that was it or not) I was told that corn is a high

starch/sugar food. I suspect that Mike might also have a corn allergy

(altho he never did prior to the diet)

---I called orville redinbacher and this is what they gave me for

microwavable movie theatre butter flavored.

Serving size-she said was four cups but she'd give me the numbers for

one cup so I'm guessing you would have to weigh out a cup of made

popcorn to get the gram amount.

Calories-35

Total fat-2.5

Carb-4

Protein-0

I haven't made it up yet to get the grams to get the amount per 100g

values.

when I gave popcorn I figured the numbers that were easiest

to figure were for hot air poped without butter you can get the

numbers for anything at the USDA site...

http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/cgi-bin/nut_search.pl

Protein g12.0030.569

Total lipid (fat) g4.2031.185

Ash g1.8030.088

Carbohydrate, by difference g77.900

Fiber, total dietary g15.10

had increased seizures, and I figured out later

it was due to blood sugar fluctuations.

Barb,

Thanks, thats what I had decided to do was used the air

popped, hopefully they still sell them. The numbers are much more

accurate than the microwavable. Thanks for the numbers it saves me

from looking them up.
