Glad you now have a good doctor. Having a doctor that works with you plays a big role in how a person will handle their diabetes or any other illness. I am on Metformin and am managing pretty good control. I am a little on the hefty side too. OK OK - I'm fat, but getting smaller. I was 400+ 7 years ago and now hover around 250.
