Guest guest
I think sometimes we focus too much on how far we have yet to go on this IE journey, so I think it's time to turn the tables and ask the question: How have you improved since you started Intuitive Eating? Having lost weight is great, but you don't have to have done so to have a great answer to this question. And only positive words on this thread. No " I've stopped obsessing over food, but... " I think we need to pat ourselves on the back for the improvements/changes we've made so far. Hopefully, our stories of improvement will inspire each of us to keep moving forward. ------------ Okay, so I'll start by saying that I think I have improved immensely using Intuitive Eating. I am no longer miserable trying to tally up my WeightWatchers points for the day. No long beating myself up because I went over. No longer being hungry and not having enough points left to eat. It is truly liberating. I've discovered a lot of things about myself. I've realized that there is a strong chance that I am hypoglycemic and need to eat a small meal every three hours to keep my blood sugar stabilized. This discovery has helped me keep my energy up during the day, not to mention I am feeling so much happier with many less mood swings. Last, but not least...*drum roll please*...I am sleeping better at night! I have really stopped obsessing over good food/bad food, and I now enjoy food because it's delicious and I love it. This experience has helped me to grow in so many ways, and I can't believe I'll never have to diet again. Whoop whoop! YOUR TURN
Guest guest
I've made a list and it comes down to freedom: To taste, smell, enjoy and experience all kinds of different foods; No more eating cardboard; No more deprivation, cravings, negative thoughts, saying I'll be good on Monday, I'll treat myslef today but be good tomorrow; No more buying clothes to fit into, not giving my money away; No more over doing it on working out to drop that number on the scale; No more letting the scale determine if I'm going to have a good day; To be able to listen to when and what my body wants and needs; Able to experience my emotions and figure out what's going on... Freedom!! Guest guest
Latoya, I am so happy for you! I am glad that you have learned to appreciate the joys of eating. So many people think that losing weight should be hard, that we should punish ourselves for being " fat " by going on diets and by killing ourselves at the gym. I believe that we are all very quickly proving those silly people wrong. Keep it up! > > This experience has helped me to grow in so many ways, and I can't > > believe I'll never have to diet again. Guest guest
FREEEEDDOOOMMMMM!!! I know exactly what you mean about experiencing all kinds of different foods. I thought that I was going to have to order chicken breasts and baked potatoes at every single restaurant I'd ever go to for the rest of my life... Not to mention the scale deciding my mood for the day... YUCK! I am so glad we have overcome these negative forces and feelings! Guest guest
You got it in one, Jo. FREEDOM. Freedom from guilt. Freedom from food obsession. Freedom from binges. Freedom from overeating. Freedom from treating food like an enemy. Freedom from dieting and restrictions. Freedom to enjoy the foods I really like. Freedom to learn which foods I don't actually like - and don't have to have if I don't want to, just because I " should " . Freedom from constant negative self-criticism. Freedom from trying to become some unachievable " other " , skinny me, which I realistically can and will never be. Freedom from caring whether or not I ever become that unrealistic other skinny me anyway! Freedom from feeling I have to wait to become skinny before I can get on and live a happy and contented life. Just freedom. I'm never going back, kids! It's way too good being free. Love to all, Sig > > I've made a list and it comes down to freedom: > To taste, smell, enjoy and experience all kinds of different foods; > No more eating cardboard; > No more deprivation, cravings, negative thoughts, saying I'll be good > on Monday, I'll treat myslef today but be good tomorrow; > No more buying clothes to fit into, not giving my money away; > No more over doing it on working out to drop that number on the scale; > No more letting the scale determine if I'm going to have a good day; > To be able to listen to when and what my body wants and needs; > Able to experience my emotions and figure out what's going on... > Freedom!! > > Thanks, > Jo. >
Guest guest
What a great topic to start. It's so easy to only focus on the negative that I often forget to remember all the good things in my life. This IE journey has been a rough one, but well worth all the ups and downs I have had. The biggest change it has made in my life has been starting to accept my body for what it is and not be focused on what I want it to be. As long I am eating intuitively and not counting calories and weighing myself I find I can get on with my day and actually look at myself in the mirror without total horror and disgust now. And my mood does not depend on what the number on a scale says. It's amazing how one little thing like stopping weighing myself made the biggest difference. So many positive things have come out of my IE experience that it's nice to sit back and think about those instead of all the work I have left to do. Thanks for starting this topic! Guest guest
I had a rough weekend food wise so today is a great day to focus on the POSITIVE changes I have made since starting IE. -I can eat any food I want! My cupboards are full of yummy food! -I feel better physically when following the IE principles. -When I binge, I don't beat myself up! I just wait until I am hungry again and eat. -When I'm hungry, I eat. I don't have to starve myself anymore! -I'm starting to like cooking and trying new recipes again! -I buy clothes that fit me instead of small clothes that I'll lose weight to fit into. That's all I got right now. Great idea and I really needed this today! Now with a new friend-happy design! Try the new Yahoo! Guest guest
This was a wonderful topic to get started-thank you. I really needed this discussion and sharing. Thank you all! I, too, am happy I have started IE and feel the freedom and peace of it. I have experienced some recent struggles (which I will not talk about now on this positive thread), but it helps to come " back to center " and reinforce why I..and we...are doing what we are. Thank you again. > > I had a rough weekend food wise so today is a great day to focus on the POSITIVE changes I have made since starting IE. > > -I can eat any food I want! Guest guest
what a great topic! - i have learned to recognize when i have had enough to eat - i am able to stop eating when i have had enough because i trust myself to feed me when i am hungry again, regardless of what time it is! - i have no forbidden foods - i have all sorts of sweets stocked up, waiting for the day that i might want them... i haven't wanted many of them so far, but it will be ok when and if i do - i have discovered that i don't even like some of the forbidden foods that i always dreamed of - i have learned to feel affection for my body, imperfections and all - i trust that my body will eventually be the size and shape it is supposed to be, even if it takes a LONG time to get there thanks everyone for the inspiration and encouragement! best, abby I just love reading everyone's successes..it's so incredibly encouraging!Thank youGod Bless,Dayna:) To: IntuitiveEating_Support From: gerdall@... My positive changes since Dec '08+I don't obsess about food+I don't resolve to really be dedicated to my diet every week+tomorrow is not the day that i will begin my successful diet quest +today and everyday is the day that i am living my life the way i am and not waiting 'til i get skinny to do it+i don't dread seeing people that haven't seen me since i was thin+i don't avoid cameras +i don't eat " last suppers " +i bought clothes that fit instead of " just waiting a couple months because then i'll fit in my old clothes " +i eat less often in front of the TV and therefore i both eat less and watch less TV+i trust myself more because i do not break a new resolution everyday+the office goodies have stopped calling my name+i feel more " like myself " againThanks, Gerda >> I think sometimes we focus too much on how far we have yet to go on > this IE journey, so I think it's time to turn the tables and ask the > question:> > How have you improved since you started Intuitive Eating?> > Having lost weight is great, but you don't have to have done so to > have a great answer to this question.> > And only positive words on this thread.
