Guest guest
Hey folks, For those of you who had lap/hysts, were any of you allowed to stay awake for the procedure? Did anyone ask? Just curious ... I'm at the point where I'll believe it when I see it myself. My GP thinks I'm nuts. She was like, ummm, they'll show you pictures, you know. Thanks! PS. I have a hard time remembering where everyone's from -- could you include that in your response? I'm thinking location might impact it ... you know UK or Canada vs US, rural vs city (I'm in Boston). Guest guest
, I had my lap/hysto done on Wed. March 12 and I was completely out of it, I could not imagine being awake. I understand what you are saying about believing is seeing, but they do give you pictures to take with you. Granted, none of them are named as to what it is you are looking at (alteast mine weren't) but I just took then back in with me to my Post-op and my RE explained everything to me again. I was pretty sore for a few days and the recovery from the Gas was painful because it settles in the shoulder/back (which is a side effect). I live in Chicago and had my surgery at NorthWestern. Being awake was never offered, nor did I ask for it. I wish you the best of luck. I love Boston, it's the only city outside of Chicago that I'd want to live. Take care and let us know how your surgery goes. Good Luck! Take care, Jen > Hey folks, > For those of you who had lap/hysts, were any of you allowed to stay > awake for the procedure? Hmm, good question - I guess if a c-section and other major procedures can be done awake, why not a lap-hyst? My aunt was awake for her hysterectomy. I was under general anasthesia for the lap/hyst resection - didn't even ask if local was an option. My surgery was done in Vancouver, B.C., Canada at Women's Health Centre under the care of Dr. son (although her associate did the surgery becasue she had a broken leg). Good question, . I never asked, but I had wondered that same thing before having my surgery. Especially when I had only the hys - only resection the 2nd time. It seemed so much easier than the lap/hys and it really made me wonder why I had to have general anesthesia. > > Hmm, good question - I guess if a c-section and other major > procedures can be done awake, why not a lap-hyst? My aunt was awake for her > hysterectomy. Yikes! For some reason that sounds like a bad idea. I don't know why it should be any different than, say, a c-section. But (for me at least) anytime they remove organs, it just seems like you should not be conscious for it. What were your aunt's comments about being awake? Did she think it was ok? She must be a tough cookie! Sara SU resected
Guest guest
Hi , I'm so sorry you are feeling blue. I'm sending you lots of virtual hugs. Hey, for variation, why don't you get those puffed up cheetos, or the cheeto balls? Keep it interesting. (I'm teasing you.) I can't imagine how hard it must be to know someone close to you who's prg after your loss. You seem to be handling it really well. As for the lap/hyst while awake, I don't think so. I asked my RE, and I think he was trying not to laugh when he answered. He told me that I wouldn't want to be awake for it, and that any movement on my part wouldn't be a good thing for the resection. I guess one could still move with a spinal? dunno.
