Hi Sandy,

You are in good control. Some people have to take meds and/or insulin to

keep low bg's. That does not mean they are not in control of diabetes.

You're doing great and you can tell this person I said so. LOL

It sure sounds to me like you are in good control. My A1c a month ago when I

went in for my quarterly checkup was 7.2. The doctor would like to see me

bring that down. I take glucophage 850 mgs twice a day. I am not yet on

insulin. I do need to lose about 90 pounds. I don't know what that would do

but I would hope it would help some.

Bottom line I'd say you have reason to celebrate.

Just my thoughts,

-- Good Control

Okay...I ran into someone today who asked me if I was in better

control these days of my diabetes. I said, I thought I was in very

good control and asked her why she asked. She stated that because

she knew I was on a full insulin replacement (or in other words, a

whole lot of insulin) that I was not in good control.

My A1c has

been below 7 for the past 9 months... 6.3 the last time. I was

pretty happy with that.

Should I not consider myself in good control? Am I deluding myself

here?

You're in the best control you can be! Goodness, people love

to burst other people's bubbles. You're doing your best and

your numbers are fine. Taking less insulin would be optimal,

because of some side effects that a lot of insulin might have

on the body, but hey, you're doing really well.

I thought that too, since I was also a type 2 and had been on

insulin from the start, taking a lot and I still wasn't in good

control. If you lost all the weight you need to, it's very

possible that your body will become more sensitive to the insulin

you do produce naturally. That's what happened to me! Don't

let anyone say that they know more than your body does and that

theirs is the final word and that there's no chance for anything

else to happen.

By my fifth month on this diet I lost about 60 pounds, maybe

a third of what I need to lose, and with the food choices and

the lower weight, my body finally became sensitive enough to the

insulin I produced on my own. No one thought that would ever happen,

but it HAS!I've been off inuslin for 10 months now.

No No You're doing the best you can! The numbers are great. Don't let

anyone make you less proud of yourself!

if your pancease does not produce insulin and you have to take lots of it,

but your a1c is where it is, heck, i'd say you are doing good.

you can't help your pancrease not doing its thing. you are fixing it the way

you can, with insulin.

as long as you are not doing the 'i'll cover every binge i have with

insulin', or using less of it deliberately to lose weight, then in my opinon

(and i am not a doc.) you are doing well.

just my two pennies worth...til payday at least.
