Guest guest
<So I am going to explore possible options of exercise to see if I can't find something to help me.> Hi : Just thought I would tell you that I was introduced 10 yrs ago to a Physical Therapist who specializes in neurological conditions and worked with a few CMT patients. She was very schooled in the limits a CMT person has and designed an exercise program for me which I still utilize today. Once you understand and recognize those limits, you will be able to exercise in moderation. I ride a stationary bike as much as possible, do some very minor weight lifting, some stretching, and just recently incorporated some trunk exercises on my own. I hope you will be successful in finding someone and I hope your MD is supportive. I, too, suffer little pain from my CMT, unless my orthotics aren't working correctly. I do have shoulder pain, but I manage it pretty well with exercise and over-the-counter medications. I have never had to take prescription medications for my CMT. Regarding you not working anymore, I also left work recently. I was approved for short term disability insurance and am now applying for long term. I think you will find some good resources on this group's site re: social security disability, but if you have your Dr's support your chances will be much better. I think you should consider it, especially if your husband is so supportive. My spouse never thought I'd qualify for anything. I am much healthier getting just normal daily activity exercise, rather than sitting for hours in front of a computer wearing my hands out. Also, I have more time to exercise at appropriate times of the day so I don't overdo and try to do it all in the evening. Now I can concentrate on me, my body, my diet, my family (elderly and young) and staying healthy - all good things! Take care!
