Guest guest
Hi Sandi, Welcome here. Your situation sounds a lot like mine. I have not been officially dx'd either, but I'm pretty sure I have FM or CFS or both. I also have painful periods but not endometriosis or PMS. What I have is called primary dysmenorrhea. It means painful periods with no disease as a cause. The pain, for me, only lasts 1 - 12 hours, but sometimes I can vomit and have something like a seizure with it -- it's like I pass out and vomit at the same time. Not pretty! Once that happens, the pain subsides and I can carry on as usual. This has happened to me since I was 10 years old when my periods started. I also have had migraines since I was 10. I'm almost 47 now. I've had pain for many years due to a car accident where I dislocated my jaw & severe whiplash. But in 2004 I got a virus of some kind while traveling, and I just never recovered from it. I get chronic sore throats (have one right now) and always feel like I have the flu. The pain migrates all over my body, but mostly concentrates in my face, neck, shoulders & lower back. I get pain in my wrists, ankles, knees and fingers. My hands and feet go numb and pins/needles frequently, and I get dizzy spells frequently. I also have IBS, and terribly disordered sleep. And I have indescribable fatigue most of the time. Some things that have worked for me: yoga -- it relaxes me and by taking some classes I learned how to align my body correctly. I also went to an osteopath for a while, but it was expensive and too far to drive safely. I take Motrin (over the counter) a lot, but my newest doctor (I've been to 7 or 8) put me on Trazodone which is a tricyclic anti-depressant, and it has given me more energy but not reduced the pain or corrected my sleep which is the real reason she prescribed it. I try to stick to a regular bedtime, which for ME is 12 midnight because I work til 9pm most nights. Need to wind down. I'm up to 6 1/2 hours sleep without waking. That is miraculous! But there are still nights when I wake up 5 times. I used to wake up 15-20 times a night, so it is a marked improvement. I also try to exercise (walking my dogs) as often as possible. I have a gym membership where there is a pool, but I haven't started going yet. We have it as a company benefit at work, so I just got my card the other day. I know swimming is good. Otherwise, I try to take time for me, which is not easy! I don't have any human kids -- just two big dogs and a cat. Welcome to the group! You will get a lot of help here! Guest guest
Hi there Sandi...I am a pretty new member here myself, haven't posted a whole lot but I do read all the posts. I've found the best things for my pain are warm baths and showers. I also got an electric blanket for Christmas and that helps too. I don't have insurance right now so I'm not able to see my dr....so I just do the best I can with the meds that I have squirelled away for now Good luck to us both... > > my name is sandi > and i am unofficially dx as having fibro > I am 50 and widowed with 3 boys and am tired of being in so much pain > I am also celiac and over weight > So i think its about time to get my self together before its too late > But can anyone tell me about anything they do to make it better > or easier and to get rid of the pain. > I still haven't gone thru the changes and I read PMS sets it off and that > is > what happen this event. > I have bad pms and monthlies > > any advice would be appreated > thank you > sandi > > >
Guest guest
Like you have the flu...that is EXACTLY how I tend to describe my pain to my friends and family. I have been diagnosed w/FMS but didn't like that rheumy so I just continued to see my pain specialist for my migraines and muscle spasms....I'd love to get insurance (I just keep hoping and hoping that one day my job will come through and pay for it for me)...and get back in with a rheumatologist and see what we can do about the muscle pain, if anything. Just rambling right now, but anyway, that is EXACTLY how I feel...my muscles hurt like I've got the flue or like I've been beat all over my body. > > > Hi Sandi, > > Welcome here.
