Hello All-

A bit of introduction, I am 47 and started suffering from a horrible

burning and numbness in my feet and hands. I let it go much too long before

saying anything to the Doctor (stupid me), I was tested and was diagnosed

with T2 in June (my BG was 484 at the time.) Yes, of course, I am

also overweight in a big way (blame multiple, repeated courses of

Prednisone for bronchitis, that stuff makes you bloat and it takes forever

to wear off and a job that kept me at a desk for 16 hourse per day.) I

changed Doctors, partially due to his habitual prescribing of only this med

for the problem.

I was started on Glipizide 5mg once in the morning and testing with my

meter once before breakfast and once 2 hours after dinner. Frustration

quickly set in since I cut almost all carbs from my diet except in very

small quantities (I was only allowing myself to have 25 gms per day, but I

kept getting high readings in the morning (225+), it would be normal

(87-139) in the evening. Thankfully, I found out about the effect of liver

dumping and sought out my new doctor again with the problem I had in the

mornings. He changed my medication to Glucovance -one in the morning and

one in the evening. AMAZING difference, my sugars are now normal in the

morning and in the evening and (I have been testing 4 times a day on my own

to see how this stuff is working) and it is remaining amazingly steady.

Since changing I have had a low of 75 and the highest was 135 and the

dumping has stopped. (In fact it tends to be lowest in the morning, I have

taken to eating a plain cake donut at midnight to make the reading more

even across the board and it seems to be working.) My weight has dropped

from 360 to 298 since June and is still dropping...

My A1C was 6.6 this last week so we will see on the next one if it starts

dropping.

Some questions,

Is it normal to feel dizzy, lightheaded and jittery when first taking

Glucovance?

Since starting treatment for the Diabetes, my Neuropathy symptoms are

actually worse than they were before, is this normal when first working to

get the BG under control?

Is there anything topical that can help relieve the burning? (I can live

with numbness, but the burning is horrible.) Anything dietary or vitamin

related to help it? (soaking my feet does nothing no matter the temperature

of the water.)

I am so glad to have found this forum, I have learned an amazing amount

being here.

Thank you all in advance

-Rich
