Guest guest
Yeah, I'd say 'Wow!' too! I'm going to have to try that wine. I wonder if that is one I could get over at Trader Joe's or even at a Fred Meyer grocery store. I take glucophage also at 850 mg twice a day. I'll check that web site also. Thanks. Ken GreyEagle -- Late night glass of wine lowers FBG Hi- Started having a bedtime glass- about 6 oz.- of Pinot Noir. Wow! My FBG has fallen from about 120 to 87. Didn't get the same effect with any other type of wine. And have to drink it right before sleep. Diagnosed 10/2001,Glucophage XR (1500mg), Diet and Exercise, Low carb Thanks to the folks on the 'other diabetes list' (diabetesworld)that told me about this. Guest guest
Hi Ken- They may have it at Trader Joe's. Mine was the cheapest I could find! It's a California- Turning Leaf, but I've also used an Austrailian wine with good results- Lindeman. > Yeah, I'd say 'Wow!' too! I'm going to have to try that wine. Any dry red (not sweet) wine has the same effect . . . cabernet savignon, pinot noir, shiraz, merlot, chianti, burgundy, bordeaux, etc. White wine has little to no effect like that. Guest guest
>Do any of you who drink wine have liver/cholesterol issues? I do not have liver or kidney issues (which is not to say that I never will). My doc is usually amazed at my HDL (that's the " good " kind that's supposed to be >40) which runs 80-90. >Does wine help with cholesterol? Supposedly it does but only the red ones as the whites and blushes retain too much sugar and don't have the desirable effects (whatever they are) that are found in the grape skins (which, when left on in the wine-making process is what helps produce the dark red color). This is fine with me as I enjoy the reds and have never found a wine too dry for my tastes. Here's just a few links re: red wine, cholesterol and health. A Google search will produce lots more. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2003/09/030909070840.htm http://www.red-wine-and-health.com/ http://www.cfah.org/hbns/newsrelease/cholesterol8-20-02.cfm Sandy T1 - 1979
Guest guest
Hi- Although it isn't my favorite tasting wine- the Pinot Noir lowered my FBG the most. White wines raised it. > Thanks, since we usually drink White Zinfandel my husband wants to try a red Zinfandel in one of the brands we buy the white in (it is really a blush looking). I am not much of a drinker at all so may have to take it like meds. I live on the Gulf Coast in Alabama. Guest guest
Strange as it may seem I had a glass of White Zinfandel last night and my BG's were about 10 points lower than any other nite this week. Don't know if that had anything to do with it or now, but am still going to get some red. Guest guest
That is so great Helen! Goes to show you how individual each case is. My BG this morning was 94, and I had an apple with it and a teaspoon of peanut butter (I measured it) before I went to bed. Tonight I'll have it by itself and see what I get. Trial and error. Guest guest
Helen I drink a glass of Arbor Mist every night. I do it for relaxation purposes but it is a great tasting wine.
