Guest guest Posted July 21, 2002 Report Share Posted July 21, 2002 , We're day 23 of 's last nitrazepam reduction, pretty well at the same place reaction wise too by the looks. 's insomnia resolved temporarily when the weaning seizures peaked (day 11-15 I think), now it has started creeping back in again. Our 2 yr old is not sleeping at the mo either, so every time we've heard the usual " Can't sleep " call from 's bedroom, our hearts sink - one insomniac we could just about handle, now two of them at it, and always at different times in the night - very well orchestrated to keep us up all night, had they planned it that way! has always had a parodoyxical reaction at night to the benzos, the nitrazepam in particular. Since being put on it, he has crashed big time when it is time to go to sleep, but has woken during the night at least 3 times, every night really since Dec. As the dose has been coming down, so have the night disturbances (at one stage he was up to waking 5 or 6 times a night), initially anyway, then he gets heaps worse as the withdrawl period starts, then improves again. Then the cycle starts all over again, I can tell the waking is getting more frequent again, haven't decided yet why - either we're about to go through another withdrawl type cycle without even touching his dose (which I read can happen), or lowering the nitrazepam has in some way upped his lamictal level, the other med we blame for his night disturbances. Seizure wise, the dreadful phase has passed, but I would lay money on the fact that there is still a bit of sub clinical stuff happening. When do you plan to do the next reduction?
