Medical alert bracelets

I signed up for Medic Alert. Only $20 a year after the initial

setup fee of $35 <and you get a free bracelet or necklace>. I

decided on this because I am allergic to many medications and also

because I use insulin. They will also call your family if anything

happens. I guess I am a little scared because I was in a car

accident once and I was so shook up I couldn't remember half the

medications I was taking much less all of my allergies. Noone

called my family for hours and I was in the emergency room all

alone. Kat

Good decision for you to have one then. I had totally forgotten about a

yearly fee. How does this work? Do you wear some form of ID with a

phone number on it and then someone would call the phone number and hear

your medical situation?

Yes, I wear the bracelet that was free for signing up. I wear it on

the same wrist that I wear my watch so it is not too noticeable.

They offer some cool looking sport bands that I intend on ordering

down the road sometime. Here's what mine says: DIABETES,

TACHYCARDIA, HTN, ALLERGIC TO ACE INHIBITORS AND OTHER MEDS. Then

there is my ID number and a telephone number. Kat

I wear a silver bracelet that says

Jim Hart

Phone Number

Diabetes

Glucose in Pocket

I carry a tube of cake frosting in my pocket at all times.

Cost me about $12 including shipping over the internet.

Ok, so you don't then have to belong to any service. All the info is

right there. The makes sense to me for my husband. I rather doubt

he'll want one, however. I'm almost always with him. But time will

tell, that's for sure.

Thanks for the info. I've discussed a bracelet with him, but he wants

to wait to see what will actually happen, e.g. will he be put in insulin

or not. I just phoned the Dr. office and they will fax his blood test

results to us as soon as they are received. So we won't have to wait

for Wed. to at least learn the results. Will discuss w/Dr. on Wed.

afternoon.

Exactly. The medallion or bracelet says something like DIABETIC--ON INSULIN (or

whatever) and gives a telephone number and a serial number. An ER nurse (say)

will call and say, " I have a patient here with a MedicAlert badge number

____________, " and the MedicAlert operator will say, " Yes, that's Mrs. X, who

takes drugs A, B, and C. Her doctor is Dr. _______, and she has insurance with

WXY. . . . "
