Hi Gavin,

Try having a look at the pecanbread website (just google pecanbread SCD) . It has a stages list. This website I think is set up for kids with autism on SCD HOWEVER many newbies find the stages list helpful as a guide. We are all individuals & as such react to different foods in different ways. Please dont eat any raw anything yet though . Go back to your intro diet for a couple of days & then slowly introduce the next stage foods one at a time. A journal is a good idea also. Oh , when I say nothing raw , you can have well spotted bananas (ie , really ripe, no green on the ends ,Lots of black spots on the skin) & make sure they're real bananas & not plantains - the little sweet sugar ones. You'll know when the diet is working 'cos you'll feel a box of fluffy ducks with none of the bloating etc. you're currently experiencing. Also if you check out Elaine Gotchalls own web site , there is a huge list of symptoms /problems you can look up & she has many suggestions. I had problems with things moving too slowly which was contributing to putrifaction so I looked up constipation. Elaines suggestion amongst other things was the addition of a stewed prune or two until things are working regularly. I added two prunes to my stewed apples & worked up to 3 or 4 prunes daily with apples, but, it wasnt until I changed the TIME OF DAY that I consumed them that it began to work. ( I was having them for afternoon tea, changed to dessert after evening meal). No idea why the time frame made a difference but it did. So I'm afraid its trial & error 'til you find what works for you. Chin up though - 'cos its worth it !!!!!

Cheers

Gillian

Newbie here - questions re: SCD

Hi allI have been on the SCD strictly for the 1 month. I am a little unclear on whether its ok for me to eat all of the legal foods now. My understanding of the BTVC book is that if D is not present, then generally, it is ok to eat the legal foods. I began with the intro diet and have been eating all of the legal foods since, e.g., raw apples, almond butter, nut flour, dried fruit, etc. Although, I'm not eating lentils. Is this ok or should I be adding foods in accordance to a suggested timeframe? My symptoms are the same regardless of what food I ingest.I have not be diagnosed with anything. However, I've had chronic stomach bloating/fullness after meals and the inability to gain weight for almost 5 years. I did have an CDSA test that showed high levels of putrefactive short chain fatty acids(SDFA's). According to the test, I am not digesting proteins properly. My doctor suggested that I try the SCD. So far, I've really enjoyed the diet. I experienced cramping/tightness under my right rib a week after starting the SCD and later developed chronic stomach distention. Both symptoms seem to be dissipating. Is this likely due to the SCD and the die-off symptoms? It is difficult to get a lot of fiber with the SCD. What are the thoughts on this? I was used to having a daily BM and now find that difficult to achieve. Any guidance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.Respectively,Gavin
