Guest guest
Hi, Two questions: one about bacon, one about expanding. My son (5), is driving me nuts! WHEN is he going to start eating normal foods????? He has been on the diet for 6 months now and he still won't expand out of the toast/waffle/chips syndrome. He had started to eats scrambled eggs and then seemed to react to them, so we stopped the eggs. Now he has latched onto bacon. I get the uncured, no-preservative kind ($$) and he eats about 6 slices every other day. He asks for it every day, but I won't give it to him. Does anyone know if that much bacon is bad for him? It is virtually the only meat he will touch and now eggs are out. He still sits there meal after meal and refuses everything. I only try it with dinner. I am finally cooking a big GFCF dinner for everyone. The other two meals he gets his waffles etc. I cannot think of a strategy that will work. I've tried so many but it seems I am the one being manipulated here - not him. Help. Charlene
Guest guest
Charlene, I don't think bacon is bad but you may want to go with a nitrate/nitrite free brand. Nitrates & nitrites affect some kids badly. The only other bad thing I could say about bacon is that it has a very high fat content and lots of cholesterol. Don't worry so much about the limited diet. That's something that even NT kids do. My NT 2 yr old lives on french fries and orange juice. Give him a good iron-fortified supplement and he'll be fine. In the meantime, keep offering him new things and don't let him know that his diet bugs you. Dolores
