Guest guest
I agree with Ken as far as it should be okay to take Periactin even with asthma. My son has allergy induced asthma and taking Periactin actually " killed two birds with one stone " .....helped with eating AND with controlling his allergies (which could lead to asthma). As Ken said, check with your doctor, but I'm sure it is okay. Guest guest
Hi all, Everything is much better around here. The Dr. is starting Micah on Periactin tonight. Would you all mind telling me what to expect?
Guest guest
I am trying to decide the dosage of Periactin to give . Reading the list, I notice some variation from your info, and I wonder do YOU decide the dosage, or Dr Harbison? Ken says it depends on weight, so... Katy's 32mths 25lb 3.3ml twice / day = 0.26ml per lb = 0.104mg 26.4lb 6.8ml = 0.26ml per lb Ken's 16mths 15lb 8ml / day = 0.5ml per lb = 0.2mg 21.5lb 10.5ml / day = 0.5ml per lb Pat's 47lb 8mg / twice / day = 0.85ml per lb = 0.34mg Periactin in the UK is only available in tablet form, 4mg per tablet. My pharmacist tells me that 5ml liquid contains 2mg ciproheptadine. Can anyone please check your bottles and confirm this? And maybe , , and (and anyone else??) could you give me your dosages. I really hope I'm not going to start concerns on all of the advice that you have been given professionally, and of course please don't change anything, but I am unable to get advice from my ped. And how quickly did you notice an increase in appetite. Days, weeks? And , what is Humatrope? And Jodi, you mentioned MCT oil ages ago. Is that just a fatty oil? Anyone used it with success? Joanne, how much Forti-Juice do you give Christian? Lots of questions, I know. Thanks for your patience.
Guest guest
, Yes, the cyproheptadine liquid is 2 mg/5 ml. Here's what Dr. Harbison told us the dosage of Periactin (cyproheptadine) should be in milligrams. She also gave this information at the MAGIC convention. The dosage is 0.25 mg/kg/day, i.e., calculate 0.25 mg of Periactin per kilograms (your child's weight). Divide this into two dosages - one in the morning and one in the evening. To help alleviate the side effects (sleepiness and crankiness), for the first two weeks give only 1/2 of an evening dose. The next two weeks give one full dose in the evening. The next two weeks given 1/2 of a morning dose and one full evening dose. After that, give the full morning and the full evening dose. Give the Periactin 30-45 minutes before breakfast and before dinner. She would go up on the dosage if this dosage wasn't effective, up to .4 mg/kg/day. We didn't notice much difference in Ross' appetite (he was always a decent eater - just not much of it), but when we saw his growth on the chart, there was a big difference. Some people, such as , do notice a big difference in their child's appetite and interest in food. Dennise For those who are like me, terrible at converting pounds to kilograms, here's the formula - multiply the number of pounds by .454. To convert kilograms to pounds, multiply number of kilos by 2.205. To convert centimeters to inches, multiply number of centimeters by .3937. To convert inches to centimeters, multiply number of inches by 2.54.

Guest guest
Hi , Since it is a perscription medication the doctor determines the dosage. The doctor makes a calculation based on height, weight and age. Hope this helps Ken M RE: periactin From: .Mahtani@... I am trying to decide the dosage of Periactin to give . Guest guest
, I agree with what Dennise just wrote about the periactin. Except wasn't always a good eater. At times we notice he eats a lot and at others he doesn't. It definatly shows up on the charts though. never had any problems with taking the periactin either. I have noticed at times, because he is older, he tries to manipulate things with the food. This whole thing can get so complicated at times. Good luck.
