The Autism Spectrum Assessment Clinic (ASAC),

located in Coral Gables, Florida, provides comprehensive psychological evaluations to children and adults to investigate the possibility of an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The purposes of the evaluation are to determine current level of functioning, clarify diagnosis, and provide treatment recommendations. ASAC includes a team of highly experienced professionals who specialize in diagnosing or ruling out ASDs, including clinical and school psychologists, doctoral level psychology students, behavior analysts, and consulting clinicians from CARD who assist in the assessment process and who ensure that individuals diagnosed with autism and their families are connected to CARD services and supports. State-of-the-art assessment measures, such as the

ADOS and ADI-R are used in ASAC evaluations.

The Curriculum

· Highly individualized, hands on curriculum that is designed to address the specific needs of each participant.

· Class sizes are small with a low student-teacher ratio.

· Focuses on the development of daily living and job readiness skills needed to live as independently as possible.

· Skills are taught both at the camp site and community setting.

· Participants develop their self-esteem and sense of achievement as they master each new skill.

Career Exploration and Job Development

· Participants identify their career interests and abilities, learn how to complete job applications, develop a resume and learn interviewing techniques.

· Participants are taught a variety of job readiness skills, including retail, clerical, food services and computer tasks.

· Participants will receive on-the-job training in a business within the community.

Other Services

· Life Skills – to include money management, meal planning, food preparation, personal and community success.

· Driver’s Education – assistance in the required online Drug & Alcohol Awareness class. Review of Florida driving rules and regulations to prepare for permit exam (to be taken online during the course). *Additional fees for online courses.

· Recreational Skills – practice socialization skills while engaging in a variety of activities.

· Community Integration – participate in weekly Friday field trips.
