It is their ultimate responsibility to make certain that the pt's records is accurate. It seems so sensible to me to dictate clearly so that the transcriptionist can easily understand what you are saying, thus able to transcribe properly. I have one doc that I type for that is fast, but it seems that she gets faster when she gets to the diagnosis. I think this would be one of the most important parts of the record, however, she just goes faster. ARG!!!!
Guest guest
Susie, I have a bunch of those. We have one Hem/Onc doctor who is wonderful but very, very fast. I always listen and try to figure out where she takes her breath. We swear she has an oxygen tank sitting next to her so that she can get some air when she is done. Fortunately she speaks very clearly and we are usually able to catch everything she says. Then there is the cardiothoracic surgeon who does his surgeries so fast that he says it faster than I can read it. He is a real challenge, never sure that he really said what I have typed before. Lots of fun. Margaret >>> Susie Reeves 11/01/01 11:28PM >>> I don't know, I am about ready to kill one of my ortho docs. Geez, I think he thinks if he speed talks he gets a cheaper rate. I find myself listening to him and thinking TAKE A BREATH ALREADY!! lol
Guest guest
I always say....good dictation gets good transcription...too bad the docs don't realize this! val
Guest guest
I have a couple of docs that do that when the get to the discharge medication portion of the report. Sometimes they are so fast, you cannot make out what they are saying, and this is a portion you just don't want to mess up on. ************************************************ Monika-33/Ocala, Florida Mother to 2 wonderful boys, age 8 (twins) Graduated PCDI in June and have been working on an acute care account from home for just over 2 months now. ************************************************ Re: Speed demon doctors In a message dated 11/1/2001 11:01:03 PM Central Standard Time, winniebear@... writes: > But he will NOT slow down! Guest guest
I have a few also. My ortho spine doc is particularly fast and the faster he goes, that accent gets worse! He's frustrated with blanks and he hates it when we tell him that we need a break and he has to have the " other company " do it. They have too many blanks. But he will NOT slow down! I get frustrated because it seems so irresponsible to me, as if he doesn't care at all. Of course, we realize why they go as fast as they can...and they hate dictating and they hate documentation but we view it as so important. So, that makes it even more frustrating. I've got to the point where I have finally accepted the fact that I can only do what I can do. He's too fast and very sloppy, just do what you can do! Guest guest
Maybe she thinks her transcriptionist is paid by the hour and that she's saving the hospital money?! You think? Maybe someone should slip her a note... ....or maybe under her signature line type something like ___________________________, MD XX XXX, MD aka Eat My Dust (!) ----- Original Message ----- > Susie, I have a bunch of those. Guest guest
Yep ... sad but true. I worked for a group of radiologists last year (14 of 'em), and they were " blessed " with an electronic signature thingee. I had access on MY end to view when (the exact time/day) the doc had actually *signed* the report after submitting MY transcript. Well, it always seemed rather strange to me how ONE doc could *sign* 122 reports within ... say ... 2 minutes MAX. Well, there ya' go ... very scary!!!!! I vividly remember doing a very lengthy " MRI of the brain " (lots of problems ... BIG problems with the patient). I thought .... Hmmmm, sure hope the doc takes time out to actually READ this one. We'll never know. Shel > LOL, that's hilarious! Shoot, they probably wouldn't even notice. After all, it's not like they actually READ what they dictated! Guest guest
And then when they have missing dictation, they accuse us of " just not doing it " . What is it? A plot or something against them? We don't get paid by the hour so why would we deliberately not do some dictation. It's amazing the way they think! It's all about money to them. How unfortunate!
