Guest guest
Hi listmates! Remember that study begun last year at Yale, where researchers were studying to see if Naltrexone (in a 25mg dose) helps smokers quit without losing weight? Well, it seems like it does! The results of the study were published this week in the medical journal, " Archives of Internal Medicine. " Researchers found that smokers who took a 25 mg dose of naltrexone in addition to the nicotine patch gained significantly less weight than those who did not take Naltrexone. Over the six-week treatment period, those who took a placebo gained 4.2 pounds, while those who took the naltrexone gained 1.5 pounds on average. You can read an article about this study here: http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/medicalnews.php?newsid=40412 This could be good news for us. Those of us who can't get our ninny neuros to prescribe LDN can go to our PCPs and say we're trying to quit smoking, but oh, we're SOOOO nervous about gaining weight... It'll be interesting to see what happens with this information. The article says that " Yale University holds a patent for smoking cessation treatments using naltrexone and related compounds and is seeking a licensee. " I wonder if any of the big pharmaceutical companies will grab it. With the right marketing campaign, it could make them a LOT of money. At any rate, the results of this study should help raise the profile of Naltrexone another notch. Maureen (Gazorpa)
