Guest guest
Increasing the protein supplements (not protein from food) will reduce much of your sugar cravings and enable you to feel more satisfied after eating. Also, cut back on all the carbs. That means bread, potatoes, pasta. It all turns to sugar and fat in your system. BobA
Guest guest
, For those of us really distal folks the animal protein is good but we just don't absorb enough protein from it so we have to use the liquid predigested protein supplements.I too can eat a lot and I graze - eating a lot of small meals during the day. I eat a lot, but nowhere near what I used to eat. A normal snack for me on the way home from work was 2-4 Quarter Pounders...with cheese of course and fries - super sized of course! and then I'd have dinner at home. I havn't been inside a Mcs in 19 months! After my surgery 3 Drive-Throughs closed up! BobA
Guest guest
Tamara: I'm not a nutritionist, but I think it's pretty well accepted that more but smaller meals keep the metabolism " going. " Also, I find if I wait too long to eat and get too hungry, I eat more than I wish I had. I'm two years out and there is no comparison between what I eat now and what I ate then. I easily and comfortably eat twice what I ate at two months post-op, but I am maintaining my weight loss comfortably. I do exercise: twice a week with a weight trainer, the rest of the days walking about 3 miles. It's freaky, but just play it cool and don't overeat when you do eat. I sometimes wonder how much of my weight loss and maintenance is *simply* because I chew food to smithereens. It takes longer. As far as food goes, I use supplements on the days I work out so I'm not trying to process food during the workout, but my doctor recommends eating solid animal protein first since it is so filling. He recommends against liquid proteins. A piece of fish or a grilled chicken breast really " stuffs " me, even if I chew it completely. I am going to try to only eat 2 meals a day and see if that helps. I was only able to eat ½ of a jr. burger several months after surgery and now can eat a whole normal size burger ( and be stuffed). I know that doesn't sound like a lot but I just don't want it to continue. And it sounds like that is more than a lot of people eat for the whole day. > > As far as protein goes, I average about 40 grams per day. Guest guest
You are heading for trouble if you do this -- if you only eat two meals a day and are hungry more than that you will set yourself up for a diet/binge cycle and put yourself back to doing what didn't work before surgery. Eat when you are hungry until you are satisfied. Some days that may mean a whole jr. burger -- I eat that at some sittings. But sometimes that may mean just a few bites. Don't diet for crying out loud. The other thing is eating two meals a day won't give you all the nutrition you need. Especially if you are restricting yourself. You need to learn to listen to your body -- eat what you want when you want it as long as you are hungry. Eat until satisfied. You need to learn to do this. What you say you want to do will screw you up. So don't. Rasley mailto:drasley@... Guest guest
Oh Bob! Great advice. But GOd I love bread and potatoes and pasta, but they make me so sick afterwards, even two years after my surgery.
