I use my kitchen aide stand mixer... then my rice cooker... then my crock

pot.

If you eat allot of rice or grains I would get the rice cooker. I use mine

for every type of grain I eat (and this is allot). My stand mixer I use

for EVERYTHING. in the last week, I have used it for 6 loaves of bread (I

don't like day old so I give it to the chickens) angelfood cake, chocolate

chip cookies for hubby and daughter, mashed potato, scones...

For my crock pot, it is great for roasts and beans and things of that sort,

but hubby hates roasts, and hates stew, and doesn't eat beans that often.

It doesn't get used as much as it used to.

Do you have a blender?? they are great for making sauces, smoothies, salsa?

Hello:

I have a Foreman grill. I love it. Meats cook in less than 10

minutes and the fat drain off. Takes significant time off food

preparation.

A vegetable steamer! . . . kinda looks like a double boiler, one saucepan

atop another, but the top one has lots of holes in the bottom . . . so when

you boil the water (in the bottom one), the steam rises and cooks the

veggies in the top pan (covered). To me, veggies taste freshest/best cooked

this way (so long as you don't cook them to death).

Hi Sandy,

I have a steamer you use in the microwave, and it's a plastic

strainer type of bowl that sits on top of a bigger plastic bowl that

you fill with water. Save theory as your stove top version, but for

the microwave. I've read that nuking food can affect the

nutritional value, but to me it's a trade off- if it takes too long

to prepare something, I probably won't take the time to make it,

especially during the week when I work. So if it's faster to make,

and slightly less nutritious, it's better than eating something

healthy less often,

1. Pressure cooker.

2. Pasta maker. (I make my own low-carb pastas.)

In the Kitchen

Ok, I want to buy something for the kitchen, but I don't know what yet.

Crockpot, rice pot, grill (ala Forman) or something else.

What appliance or other piece of kitchen equipment (pots and pans) do

you use most or could not do without?

(And if you say " food " ..... =)

Very hot and humid in Florida, and the less heat generated by

kitchen appliances, the better!

I have a black & Decker rice cooker " plus "

It was a wedding present. I use it all the time... I don't know about

different sizes, but you can get them fairly cheap I am sure.

I had an older one, but I got rid of it once I got my new one...

As for crock pots, we don't eat lots of soups and stews and roasts and

things of that sort. I used to make my sketti sauce in there, but It is

just easier to put it in a pot on the stove... Could be that I just don't

have lots of space to use it...

Two local places I can look at are Bed, Bath & Beyond and Target. Both

have a good selection of crocks, etc. And the hardware store and the

drug store also carry some. 'Specially the " as seen on TV " type

products. There are also several Asian grocery stores nearby that sell

cheap small rice cookers, but I don't know the quality of them. Then

there are also the two restaurant supply houses near each other. A

regular one and an Asian one, but those are a bit better quality, bigger

size, and more money. =) Although, if I found that I was using one

quite a bit I might put the money out later. Also saw a few deep fat

fryers - Fried veggies, fried bananers, fried ice cream... Maybe I

should stay away from those... =P
