Guest guest
,How ripe was that banana? Although it is a bit OT I always ask about the possibility of Latex Allergy as banana is one of the cross reactive foods. Do you have issues with kiwi, avocado, carrot, celery,or apples? These are just some of the foods associated with that allergy. Ok, so I ate a little less than a third of a banana two days ago. I did ok the day I ate it. The next day, I was irritable, hyper, and nervous. Today, I'm still irritable, headache, and the GI symptoms are starting...stomach ache (BAD), intestinal cramps and nausea. And I'm definitely going to be running to the toilet tomorrow....I can just tell. The banana is the only thing I've done different. What do ya' think? Thanks for any help, ~ Carol F.Celiac, MCS, Latex Allergy, EMSSCD 7 years

I have trouble with every fruit and veggie, so yes, I have trouble with all of the above. I am so NOT educated on latex allergies. I'm leaving for vacation here in a few hours, but when I get back, I'll google that. ~See what's new at AOL.com and Make AOL Your Homepage. Guest guest
Help! I was on scd for one week with great results and then also added bananas to my diet. I know now that I added too many (2-3 a day) and that they were not ripe enough. I have been back on the chicken soup, gelatin, eggs for 3 days now and have been experiencing less d, some formed stools but a lot of bleeding. Bananas were a staple food for me during relapses before I even knew about scd and I don't recall having such severe bleeding. Can anyone relate to this or offer any advice? I have been diligent about scd other than adding the bananas. Thanks for any help. Janet --- Carol Frilegh wrote: > , > How ripe was that banana? Guest guest
Janet, I'm so sorry you had this setback but there are things that should help. Bananas are usually well tolerated early in the diet but they have to be well spotted with brown and feel soft. Any new food after the intro diet should be added in very small amounts and increased gradually and an adverse reaction may appear after a delay. Stop the bananas for now, and have a look at this schedule which suggests which foods to introduce and when. It is not a mandatory part of the diet but is helpful. Try adding something else and keep a log. Later you can try banana again. http://www.pecanbread.com/new/scdfoods1.html > Help! > I was on scd for one week with great results and then > also added bananas to my diet. Guest guest
Enjoy your holiday!Curiously, certain fruits such as bananas, chestnuts, kiwi fruit, avocado and tomato13 show cross-reactivity, perhaps because of resemblance to a latex protein component. These foods have been responsible for anaphylactic reactions in latex-sensitive persons, while many other foods, including figs, apples, celery, melons, potatoes, papayas and pitted fruits, such as cherries and peaches, have caused progressive symptoms beginning with oral itching.14 Persons with a history of reactions to these foods are at increased risk of developing latex allergy, and those who are sensitive to latex should avoid foods to which they have had previous reactions. While food cross-reactions remain an evolving area of knowledge, it is clear that the elimination of all of these foods would cause significant dietary restriction and is therefore not recommended categorically for latex-allergic persons. , How ripe was that banana? Guest guest
Carol, Thanks for your support and advice. I have definitely stopped the bananas and will probably wait a few more days to start another food..until the bleeding has diminished. I made a copy of the schedule for introducing selected foods. Cheese was not on the list. When can it be introduced? Thanks, Janet --- Carol Frilegh wrote: > Janet, > I'm so sorry you had this setback but there are > things that should help. > > Bananas are usually well tolerated early in the diet > but they have to > be well spotted with brown and feel soft. > > Any new food after the intro diet should be added in > very small > amounts and increased gradually and an adverse > reaction may appear > after a delay. Guest guest
Janet, Since Dry Curd Cottage Cheese is on the intro diet, my guess is that you are speaking of the legal hard cheeses like cheddar and Swiss. Those cheeses on the legal list in BTVC are aged more than 30 days (it used to be 60) and must not contain bifidus. They can be tried in small amounts soon after the intro. In yogurt and in the natural cheeses, the casein is denatured into a two-dimensional structure which would be less likely to cause allergic reactions and the aging and bacterial culture gets rid of the lactose. Elaine states on page 71 in my edition 10 of BTVC that there is no specific schedule for introducing foods and she mentions the few exceptions. The Stages chart did not exist at that writing, and Elaine later maintained that it was not a requirement to follow it. . Back in the day,( 1968) Weight Watchers put a weekly 4 oz. limit on it and thank goodness SCD is a completely different type of diet. (I love to snack on a Medjool date wrapped in cheese) > Carol, > Thanks for your support and advice. Guest guest
Carol, Thanks for the info. I will look forward to trying cheese soon and dates in the future!
