Hi Everyone--

This past week I went to the doctor and was not too happy with the results. My

A1c is 7.9 and my thyroid medication was doubled. I was also told to make an

immediate appointment with the doctor (soonest I could get is Mar10). Anyway,

the good news for me was that he agreed to letting me try the Atkins diet. He

said it has done well by him and his diabetes (imagine my surprise at that

revelation)! I have had this doctor for close to 15years and this was the first

he'd ever mentioned. Anyway, my question is this? Where do I go to get

started? He and I have pretty much given up on the idea of any weight loss for

me because there is too much going on for me to even concentrate on it (not to

say I don't try). I am about 125lbs overweight, but at 4'11 " it looks like a

whole lot more. I am a very brittle diabetic (no matter what we have tried in

the past 30 years nothing seems to keep my sugars at an even keel). I am

ashamed of the way I look, I very rarely leave my house!

. I can't walk anywhere because it just tires me out and causes too much pain

for me to enjoy it. The sarcoidosis is in stage 4 of 5 and I am set for an MRI

this Friday to see if it may possibly be attacking my bones now. The doctor

says he is quite leary about sending me to a surgeon if the MRI shows that it

could fix my shoulder pain. Also how good is the insulin pump for better

control? I have heard good things about it. My sugars run anywhere from 600

down on and off all day. All I would like is ONE DAY of being a " normal " person

again! My kids (both teenaged boys) worry every day as to what they will walk

in on when they get home from school. I can't even take a catnap without them

worrying. Any advice or help anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry the post is so long.

As for Atkins, the book should be available at any good bookstore or from

www.amazon.com.

Have you tried aquatic exercise? Is there a YMCA or YWCA in your area? The

water will buoy you up so that there is very little weight on your joints, and

because water is thicker than air you will get a better muscular workout.

Thanks for the info Debi. I don't remember if I mentioned it, but not being

able to walk or anything isn't just from the weight gain it is also from the

sarcoidosis which has totally taken over my lungs so of course it is hard to

breathe no matter what I do. I will give Atkins a try however. Wish me luck!!
