Jeanne and

One reason we chose international adoption was because it is usually

faster than domestic, and there is a definitive timeline as to when

you'll bring your child home. We began the process in November, and

it looks like we will be bringing our child home sometime this

summer! That is VERY fast, but dh has been great at getting all our

paperwork together.

Jeanne, I am very sorry to hear of your husband's cancer and will

pray for him. We did have to get certification of good health from

our doctors (as well as a mountain of other kinds of paperwork...).

What I would suggest is perhaps you can contact a few agencies,

explain your situation to them, and see what they say. Some

countries allow single women to adopt, so maybe there is some kind of

loophole you can work thru there. There are also some Yahoo! groups

on international adoption, maybe you can ask the opinion of the

members on a group or two as to their experiences with illness and

adopting.

Just where did you go in Guatemala, Jeanne? We will only be there

for a few days, in Guatemala City, but I definitely want to get out

and explore the country and culture. Any tips?

, we're leaving it open as to whether we'll adopt a boy or

girl, and have requested an infant who is between 1-3 months old at

time of referral. However, we are now asking about two children on

our agency's web site who are now 6 months and what looks to be about

a year old. I am kind of freaking out - I told dh that if he wanted

me to keep my sanity we had to go begin registering this weekend!
