I have been reading my e-mails from the list for a week or two, and think this must really be a god-send for a lot of people out there. Wish it was around 4 years ago after my son was diagnosed. I wanted to put a few ideas out there that I have encountered over the years from my experience. One bit of advice that I heard from many doctors and nutritionists is to be careful about some of the drink mixtures out there --they can be too rough on little bodies. One thing that I did for a long time for was to make my own " instant breakfast " type thing. I mixed half and half with milk, dry milk, powdered egg whites and some sort of flavoring (Quik, fruit etc). I would make a quart at a time with my son's help ( he always ok'd the taste!). I put in a lot of protein foods because his daily food diary indicated he was not getting enough protein. By varying the components yourself, you can increase carbs, fat etc. I averaged about 360 cal/8oz A second thing that a nutritionist recommended was a product called PROZONE, made by Nutribiotic. This consists solely of macronutrients (Fats, carbs and protein) and comes in 4 flavors - choc, vanilla, strawberry and cappucino. I don't remember the calorie count for this product, but one of the nice things was that you could mix the vanilla or strawberry flavors with juice (nice change from milk). It could also be mixed with the juice and frozen into popsicles! One of the best places (price wise) to get this is from the Vitamin Shoppe. They have an 800 number and web site. Another R.D. recommended Ensure pudding -- never liked at our house --seems like the pediasure, etc. has quite a metallic taste. prefers cooked pudding with an extra egg thrown in for the same calorie count.
