Hi,

The 31 RSS adult was 4' 5 " . Just looking at her I would have guessed 4' 7 " .

She was with her mother and her mother is on the shorter side also - maybe

around 5' - 5'1 " . I spoke to her mother briefly and she said that she was

born a little earlier but close to 5 lbs. and 18 inches long. To me that

was really good size considering my daughter was 1 lb. 12 oz. and 13 inches

at birth. Back then they didn't know about all this making up for caloric

defecit and height defecit that Dr. Harbison talks about so much now.

Without any interventions it appeared she grew exactly how an RSS child

would predict to grow, shorter than the average female (4' 7 " ) because of a

shorter family. Her name is Connie and I wish I could have talked to

her more and ask her if she had a computer so she could get online with us.

I think she would be a great one connect with!

Just to show that it can be tricky to understand all these RSS symptoms (as

if we didn't already know that...) -

My son was born at 3 lbs 5 oz taken 1 week before due date. He had a normal

placenta (yet 1/2 size) and normal blood flows in utero.

interesting, too. When I was pregnant with Jake, I had compli-cations and I

had very detailed ultrasounds involving dopplers (which I remember to be the

flow of blood thru the cord)-it (the flow) was very decreased. I'm curious

to know and will call my OB/GYN to see if Jake had a 2-vessell cord. I'll

let you know. I do know that my placenta was full of fibroids and that is

why they believed him to be so severely IUGR at the time.

>P.S. Stimmell told me that Jake's personal story should be in the

next newsletter. It's very detailed with info--however, can you believe I

forgot to put in the fibroid part??!!I sent my OB/GYN a copy of that story.

Also, re the Oprah show-I sent her another letter along with a copy of the

story-(please know that I did write in my letter that many of the other RSS

children have more involved medical conditions than my son). Maybe that

will help with trying to get public awareness to RSS and a greater public

ACCEPTANCE of small people. (And also to the Today Show in NY).

>Sorry this is so long- but, also, re the small 31 yr. old woman with

RSS-just out of curiosity, how small is she? I mean, I'm small, too, only

5'1 " & petite-is she smaller?
