Guest guest
HI , what kind of B6 and how much? I had lipo 6mths ago and am still swelling. I look great in the mornings but by the middle of the day watch out. I swell at least 2 inches in my abs. I wonder if my previous surgeries which include the gastric and a TT have anything to do with the swelling taking longer to go away. Any thoughts would be appreciated from anyone. Guest guest
Cheryl I know that I am late getting into this conversation after the weekend and 129 e-mails to go through. But I swell EVERY afternoon after lunch. I am wondering is it gas or what? EVERY afteroon I look like a basketball took residence in my upper abdomen. Anyone have any clues as to why this happens? Hmmmm, maybe I should read the rest of my e-mails. Maybe someone has already posted the answer. Carol Richmond, VA >>> crzytaylor@... 07/22/00 02:56PM >>> HI , what kind of B6 and how much? Guest guest
Dear Carol, OMG, I am so glad someone else brought this up. Me, too! I feel so much gas pressure and swell up so much that I have to wear some jeans that are normally too baggy! I feel very uncomfortable, too. I asked my doctor for Flagyl, but it didn't help. Then I tried activated charcoal, which I am still on, and seems to help about 50% at times. I know I can't stay on it forever, but I'm so dreading going off of it and being worse than ever. There has got to be a cure. I'm almost sure I read it posted here once, but I can't for the life of me think of anything else to do. Exercise and/or walking seems to help a bit, as well as going around the house clearing rooms with my gas (haha), but it's an embarrassing and painful side-effect of this surgery that I'm learning to live with My husband keeps trying to think up things that will help. They all, of course, are hilarious, but at least they take my mind off of the gas for a moment or two! Guest guest
I have the same problem. By the end of the day I look like I swallowed a basketball. My gas during the night sometimes drives my wife out of the room. Things that have helped: 1. cut back on carbs and maybe some fat. They ferment in the shortened intestine (I am very distal). And no sugar! Same reason. I also found that the sugar alcohols that they use in " sugar-free " foods make me gassy (manitol, sorbitol, etc). 2. Take Chlorofresh. It is available in a vitamin store. It helps for a while. Take it, then stop for a few days and start again. 3. Try yogurt with acidolphilous cultures to change the flora of the stomach. If you are lactose intolerant you may need to also take LActaid. It does help. 4. I found that Gas-X extra strength helps. Take the pills not the chewables since there is some sugar alcohol in the chewable (I think - I don't have one here to read the label) 5.I also tried acidophilous pills that you get in a vitamin store. They helped. 6. THE BEST SOLUTION: antibiotics. I had a bacterial infection and was on IV anitibiotics recently and the swelling and gas went away! Totally! But it came back after I went off the antibiotics. Our surgeon has used Cipro with some patients and it has worked well, although you can't stay on them all the time. To combat the odor I burn insense, candles, use cologne and a sugar-free breath ment called ICE CHIPS. The gas odor sometimes comes out my mouth and the Ice Chips work. I also use TUCKS pads and sometimes even use a scented panty liner in my Jockey shorts! The more I go to the bathroom and expell the gas the better it is. When I get stuck at work and can't get to the mens room the gas really builds up to the point that I can knock a buzzard off a fence post at 20 yards! All in all I'd rather be thin with gas than fat and still have gas! Hope this helps. BobA Biliopancreatic Diversion 10-7-98 222 Pounds Gone Forever, Just the Aroma Remains! Guest guest
Thanks Bob! I'm still laughing at all those dead buzzards laying around in my yard. I wonder if they make Odor Eaters for the butt?<LOL> Carol Richmond, VA
Guest guest
Dear Bob, Thank you SOOOO much for this list! I am keeping it for LIFE! I have already called my doc about the Cipro and am waiting to hear back from him. I bought some Lactase Enzyme yesterday along with the Lactaid milk. I guess my next purchase will be acidophilous pills. Maybe I should try this all one at a time, to see what cures it... My Mom (who just had an open RNY in March) and I are driving across the country next month. Can you imagine what that trip is going to be like? We'll strip the leather off of the seats by the time we get back to DC! I have some ozium already in the car, along with one of those little clip on air fresheners in the same scent. I'll keep my fingers crossed. And yes, I absolutely agree 100%. I'd rather have this problem than the problem of MO anyday! Guest guest
But remember--try getting in 100 oz a day for a few days and see if it might be dehydration.... (who always gets her water in thanks to ) in Nebraska swelling > Remember, before you go tossing B6 or anything in there, check with your doc and make sure nothing is " wrong " , like any sort of deficiency, dehydration or anything like that. Herbs & vites never take the place of a real check up. But if he says, nah, the swelling just takes awhile to go down, you might try 1 a day, small dose, then increase to 2. But don't hit it with the biggest you can find on the shelf!
