Someone I work with recommended Acidophilius. I have been taking it for a couple months now and (knock on wood!) I have not had any problems. I got it at Wal-Mart. The recommended dose is 2 tablets a day but being as frugal and broke as I am, I started with one a day and that has worked. I had a yeast infection from **** after a long hospitalization on IV antibiotics for sepsis after delivering my last baby (and I am NOT diabetic except gestational). K, don't laugh, but all the over the counter meds and prescriptions for yeast didn't touch it. I had open wounds it was so bad. My pharmacist friend told me to buy fresh plain yogurt with live cultures from the health food store and to apply it directly to my ...well..um you can figure it out...he gave me a large needle-less syringe to apply internally as well as instructing me to apply liberally to the surrounding area. Yes, messy as can be.....but a true MIRACLE!!! I took the lactobacillus acidophilus pills at the same time. I took 4 a day for two days and that was all I ever needed. What had been 3 weeks of nightmarish pain and burning was close to gone in less than 24 hours and completely gone and sores healed in 48 hours. Haven't wanted to eat yogurt since, but it is great for the other use! ;-) hugs Keri Single Mom to Krissy 15, 11, Donnie 8 type 1, and 5. Guest guest
I have had problems with (how to put this delicately?) feminine yeast and in the skin folds, especially in the hot, humid weather. Guest guest
I have heard of using the yogurt directly on the infected site but never tried it myself. Kitty
Guest guest
Hi Kitty, I too experience what you mention, the skin rashes. You know the Acidophilius is the active culture from yogurt. So I guess you can call it concentrated yogurt. I have also heard of Grapefruit Seed Extract and am planning on trying the capsules when I get back from my vacation. It is very strong and the " die-off " at the beginning can feel like the flue I have been told. So I will not start that til after vacation. Meahwhile, my doctor gave me a prescription for Diflucan. I have to stop taking my Lipitor, if you are on any statins, (which alot of diabetics take) you must stop them a few days in advance of starting the Diflucan, one can not take statins with azole antifungals- it is very dangerous for the liver. I usually need a double dose, 5 days apart to knock out most of the rashes. Then I will restart the Lipitor about 3-5 days after the 2nd pill's 5 day active period is over. This is a temparary fix, but it will tide me over. Eventually the rashes get so bad it feels like having poison ivy in those areas. I have to be extra careful to avoid crosscontamination to avoid vaginal yeast infections developing secondary to the skin rashes. I understand that Diabetics are especially prone to yeast overgrowth. I also understand that yeast overgrowth is to blame for many other ailments. I belong to another Yahoo Group on this subject, it is called candidiasis, the link is: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/candidiasis It is really comforting to meet someone who is dealing with both diabetes and the skin rash yeast problem, as I am understanding that it fits into a Diabetic Complication catagory, but not much is ever mentioned about it. It seems no too many people get this version of Yeast Overgrowth. If you want to email me privately, we can chat on a more detailed level. Guest guest
Keri, I am wondering, and I think Kitty may be too, did you have yeast skin rashes and did it work on that too, or do we need to run that experiement ourselves. I am so excited that something so common and gentle worked so well. I may try this first before the Grapefuit Seed Extract since it is much harsher. Thanks for the tip, Mom2KJDJ@... wrote: > In a message dated 7/31/2004 7:22:21 AM Pacific Standard Time, > kittybott@... writes: > I was eating yogurt and using over the counter creams which seemed to > help > but not cure.
