Sheila,

What you describe sounds just like my sleep apnea. I have been waking up at

around 4 for years. Until I had a sleep study this year it was not

diagnosed though. I did not know that I had chiari at the time although I

have been symptomatic for three years. Sleep apnea occurs just as you start

to drop into rem sleep. The problem is that rem sleep is the phase that

gives your body most of the rest benefits of sleep. I now wear a simple

dental device to bed to keep the airway open and sleep through the night

every night. More importantly I actually feel rested when I wake up.

Sleep apnea is a common symptom of acm

the only way to determine this is to have a sleep test done. i had similar

symptoms and was recently diagnosed with Narcolepsy and Restless leg syndrome.

Talk to your dr about having a sleep study done.

Let me know what happens!

I've had problems off and on with waking up at around 4 a.m.,

falling back asleep, only to wake up again and again throughout the

rest of the morning. It seems to happen in clusters...I'll have it

for weeks, then it will go away for weeks, etc.

It has been suggested to me in the past that this could possibly be

sleep apnea. I did some research on the net yesterday, and read in a

few places that around 4 a.m. is when it is mostly likely to occur,

something that has to due with REM sleep. Does anyone believe this

could be true?

I've never pursued the possible sleep apnea, I've never even mentioned

it to my doctor, although I am aware that Chiarians can have sleep

apnea.

Also, another theory that I have, is that this constant waking up

could be hormonal, occuring when I am premenstrual. This most recent

bout started Saturday morning, and has been with me ever since, and I

am about 5 days from my period. Maybe I should keep a journal to find

out if this is true.

Thanks,

Sheila

I have a question. Has anyone had the dr tell them that sleep apnea

and fibro are related? And that if you fix one you will fix the

other? I just got diagnose with fibro about 3 weeks ago and one of

the things my dr is waiting on is the results of my sleep study to

decide what course of action to take. I just got back from my ENT dr

visit with the results and have been told I do have sleep apnea and

they are gonna be putting me on a CPAP machine. My ENT dr tells me

that this will not only help but will prolly cure me of my fibro. I

had not ever heard of this before.

Well, it didn't " cure " me, but it certainly helped. My doc has me on meds to

sleep as well as my CPAP machine. You will feel better. Ann K. in Mi.
