Guest guest
Hi, I have already answered a couple of posts from this group. Wanted to introduce myself. I am 39 (tomorrow I will that is!), single mom with one child and was diagnosed with diabetes November 2002. I have a question. I have read in different places that one should test often, especially during exercise and when someone is sick. My doctor has given me a prescription for glipizide and metformin. I am currently only given 51 strips and 100 lancets per month. I told my doctor that I wanted to get a walking program started for me and I am working on my food intake, i.e. what types of food, my salt intake, etc. My doctor has not set me up with a dietician or compensated for my walking program. I have also discussed with her about how stressed I have been at work and how it is affecting my sugar counts. Okay for the question! lol How often is enough to check my sugars? The strips are expensive! I can't always afford to purchase the strips with my limited budget! But yet, my doctor will not approve for more than she is already prescribed. Am I just trying to be too overly cautious and it is not necessary for me to test myself more than one or two times a day? Sorry this is so long, but felt I needed to write all of this.
