We only started the diet this past June. Still I feel its time to share our

progress with you all. Zack will be 6 Aug 26. He has Autism and is non

verbal. He is very delayed and has almost no self help skills. Like a lot of

kids with ASD he developed normal in every way until Autism invaded our lives

at 18 mo then he slowly regressed until about 24 mo. We have tried so may

supplements and did so much research since then. Well you know what its like.

We all had to start somewhere to end up here. He had made some progress with

age, but very little and very slow. The GFCF diet has made the most

difference ever. In only 2 months. THe change began right away even before

we went 100%. First his sensory problems began to get better, he no longer

insisted on taking ice cold showers several times a day, he stopped tarring

piles of pages from books, he no longer put his hands in his #2 diapers. Then

a little later when 100% I could tell he understood me better and would

follow some commands. I didn't have to repeat things over and over before he

got it. He started really jumping on his trampoline instead of just laying

there expecting me to bounce him. He lost interest in the things he was

obsessed with ( Barney and books ) and began to notice and explore new

things. He no longer cries when we go to the post office ( cause he thinks

that any office type building is a doctors office) Now when we go to Wal-Mart

or the grocery store he doesn't ride in the buggy he pushes it. He has added

the word - baby - into his usual babbling. He doesn't usually show me what is

hurting him, he cant. But one night he was crying and I begged him to show me

what was hurting or what was wrong and he took my hand put it on his tears (

in other words he said he was crying, that's what was wrong). He would never

even touch or pay any attention to animals before but last night he picked up

the new puppy we got him. Two day ago he finally noticed the merry go round

on the swing set we got him last year, and let me push him for 20 minutes.

Yesterday we went through a drive thru, he knew that I usually get him a pop

when we go there and he normally just sits there and waits for it. But this

time he leaned forward, looked at the guy and said DUBADo. I think he was

trying to ask for it himself. His last four #2 stools where firm. And just

tonight as I was reading the group post he stood beside me, turned my face

toward him and give me a big lick ( that's how he kisses ). It feels so good

to be moving forward instead of standing still. This group is a very good

place to learn from and share with others. from Kentucky ( Zack's Mom )
