Funny you say this. I agree and I have often wondered about the role of

illegal drug use and its role in harming children. I am not sure we will

ever get an answer on that one because it requires self-reporting. The

risks and benefits of vaccines should be an easier answer but so much is

at play. I still think that a campaign for safe and informed vaccination

is a battle worth fighting.

I'm curious if you drank milk when breastfeeding. I did and both kids

had tear duct issues (as did I as a baby with a milk allergy), and while

few ear infections they had fluid that never left the ears which

warranted tubed for son. In our case anyway, I think milk was the culprit.

What is the risk for seizure with pertussis vaccine in a child w/seizures? Its

my understanding this vaccine would not be a good idea for my child.

thanks-

Hey, I was put on acyclovir too! My neighbour has a son who plays with Mark and

she also had chicken pox while pregnant. Her child is diagnosed with ADHD, has

an IQ of 135, at 12 barely rides a bike, has extreme visual perceptual

difficulties, and extreme dysgraphia. He has NO problems with speech. Like my

child, her boy is an avid reader and quite advanced in that forum. They are

away on vacation right now but when they return I am going to discretely inquire

about whether he has diarrhea/constipation issues.

I was on a test study for acyclovir. They followed Mark's progress right up to

the age of 2 and determined him normal. The dyspraxia coincidently showed up 6

months afterward. I called a year after to alter the results they had taken

from my child but was told that the study had closed and new results could not

be added. I thought that was biased.

Wow, the more we share, the more we learn. The videos I purchased were at

http://www.autismmedia.org/store.html and the one I am speaking of is

" Gastrointestinal Issues in Autism, Vol 1 " . (worth the $8.00). I actually

ordered all of the videos on the site! The only knock I have against them is

that they are not dated so I cannot determine when they were made. Perhaps I

will find that info on the site itself.

There is a standard form that you use that does not specifically state

what religion you are and can be used in any State because of our

Freedon of Religion. Check with the local Holistic Moms Network groups

down there (FL)if you think I am making this up.

We have friends in Kissimee and Orlando that are in public school so it

must work.

Again, Were those babies healthy and full term, what other

complications did they have, were they breastfed, did their parents

have other contributing factors? It is hard to compare the number of

children because the known other effects are not stated. For the

record the flu vaccines are not normally the ones that prevent the

thousands of different types of flu anyone could get. A very immature

baby can get RSV which could have been avoided by keeping the number of

guests with nasal discharge or cough down and lastly not having folks

over to handle a baby as a newborn.

Check out www.mytinyhands.com for cool stop signs that tell

folks " Please wash your hands before touching mine " .

I used a standard form that stated my child was breastfed for a year

and our faith conflicted with the routine use of vaccines. I think it

might be posted on Barbara Flynn's web site. I have had no issues so

far, my kids are healthy, we travel and believe in God's design.

Ironically we are now just having our daughter's first ear infection at

age 21 months!

> That's an interesting take...what vaccines do they have for

meningitis?

I agree that breastfeeding might not prevent a child from

getting HIB or diptheria 100% but just think how much worse they

would have it without natural immunity. And apparently vaccines

alone don't supply enough or you would not have to have a booster

shot...something to ponder. And since we do not have any controlled

group studies it is hard to say how much more immunities are lost

simply to the risk factors of other issues such as environment or

exposures.

As Dr. Kirby points out there is evidence of harm in the data we do

have regarding our current vaccines which is why he wants safer

vaccine practices based on all the data presented, not just the ones

that market a drug as safe.

Again, it's every parent's wish to have the most information so they

can come to terms with informed consent.

April

ps. Read Mothering Magazine on the dangers of Gardisil that people

are so pro. Very informative.

I did check out the videos on the site and will likely be ordering. You

are so right, the more we share, the more we learn. One thing to keep in

mind, you really have to think about how you ask about poop. Aside from

the discreet concern, I have learned from trying to get family history

that people often don't recognize their own issues. My dad, for

instance, takes over one hour daily to pass stool. He thinks this is

normal because it has been that way for all of his 68 years. In fact I

recall stories of his mom putting laxatives in candy bars for him. Does

he have serious bowel disease now? No, but that piece of the puzzle

along with all the other info. could be indicative of the celiac or

celiac-like condition we are likely seeing in the family.

I recall looking for everything I could on acyclovir when we were

considering it. By then there was 7 years of data stating it was safe.

Since your son is 8 years older than my daughter I was likely relying on

the test study you cite. I discovered my chickenpox immediately (I knew

to be aware because 2 weeks earlier husband had chest pain, gastro

symptoms and a rash I touched which turned out to be shingles). In fact,

the bloodtests never showed it but it was obvious. My primary and OB had

a conference and decided acyclovir was the best alternative. I agreed. I

was scared but looking back, I was very sick for days, even with the

acyclovir. I firmly believe my daughter and I, perhaps both of us, would

have died due to complications of pneumonia without it and I believe the

best decision was made.

With that said, how sad that the information can't be out there. We need

informed decisionmaking.

As always Janice, it's a pleasure.

:)

I think you missed my point regarding Florida. I realize Florida has

a religious exemption. My point was if your religious affiliation

does not have a specific statements/tenants against vaccines then in

Florida you are out of luck unless you lie to get your exemption. In

Florida you either vaccinate or you get a religious exemption. There

is no exemption for being opposed to vaccines. You have to lie and

state it is because of your faith that you are not vaccinating. If

it is just because you don't want to vaccinate then your child cannot

enter the school system. Now, if you can state that the church, etc

that you attend specifically teaches against vaccines, no problem.

Just go to the health department and ask for your form. What I was

saying is that I don't like that Florida takes the vaccine choice

away from parents via this policy. Parents only choice is to

vaccinate, join a church that opposes vaccines or lie about their

religion.

Legally in the state of Florida you must have a " blue card " (the 480

form) which is the state vaccine record. It must be filled out and

signed by a health care provider. If you do not have that form you

must have a religious exemption form (also blue.... Florida is funny

about the colors for their forms). So you must have one or the other

to enter any Florida licensed school, public school or licensed daycare.

I know for myself if I were to decide not to vaccinate in Florida I

would have a problem. My church does not teach against vaccines.

But it does teach that lying is a sin. So do I really haul my

daughter into the health department and lie to the staff to get our

exemption? That's not the type of example I think parents should be

setting for their kids. The religious exemption form does not state

a religious affiliation but you still have to go in and ask for it.

And in using it, asking for it, etc most parents are either stating

something that isn't true or implying something that isn't true.

I wasn't dairy free but since I hate the taste of milk.... I didn't

drink it, didn't have it on cereal, etc. I did have cheese and such

but probably less than once or twice a week. The dairy I did eat

probably didn't help matters much. ;-)

In regard to this statement " My point was if your religious affiliation

does not have a specific statements/tenants against vaccines then in

Florida you are out of luck unless you lie to get your exemption. In

Florida you either vaccinate or you get a religious exemption. "

My point is that the form you sign does not state your religion you

just claim it is in conflict with your faith and leave it at that.

They are not permitted to ask you what religion you are. Again go to

Barbara Flynns site for the form or join a local HMN group to find what

others did. A large portion of folks homeschool so it's easy but many

do not, especially if they have to rely on the services provided at

public school.

Anyway, I am not trying to push anyone to think like we do, but I

wanted to share my experience, just for the record.

Now that the first against vaccines has won, I wonder what the next

step will be. My daughter is old enough to have had vials with

mercury in them. But I think other environmental toxins are to blame

too.

>

> I have always felt it was the vaccines that caused my son's

aspergers, but since his injections in 1990, they have taken out the

mercury preservative that was suppose to have been the culprit. If

they really took it out. I had a doctor tell me the vial didn't have

that in it, I asked to see the vial, and read it myself, and it did

have it in it. He wanted him to have a TD at the age of 14, I

refused for years. Then finally they had a bottle without the

preservative so I allowed it. The doctor kept telling me that what

he might could get if he didn't get the injection would be a painful

death.

> All I could think of was how those vaccines have put him in so

much pain now with his aspegers. Didn't want to make him suffer

more. Some one knows for sure what is causing it, they are just not

telling us cuz it will be a real big deal, and somebody will have to

pay big for the mistake. They always told me to give my son Tylenol

after the vaccines because he may run a fever, well they were right,

he always had a fever, and he would be hard to get a long with and

deal with, be sick for days. I always dreaded them. pj

Did they give him all 4 shots in the same arm?? YIKES! That would hurt! Just the mechanism of the needle piercing the skin would hurt. Did he receive a Tetnanus shot? They are notoriously painful. It may hurt and be swollen for a couple days. Mimsbrespoodles <@...> wrote: My daughter took Drake and signed him up for school Thurs and he hadto have 4 shots to catch him up. What did the doc at the ER say? He probably needed some benedryl. I take shots weekly and after I've had a cold or something, I take a shot and my skin swells up and is all itchy. Then over time it lessens.

After a 5 hour wait in the ER, they told her to give him benedryl.

Drake is allergic to antibiotics. The only one he has not had a

reaction to is the one given by shot or IV. I can't think of the name

of it at the moment so any reaction to a medication is a big deal.

Thankfully, it all worked out ok, and the arm swelling and such went away,

wow! That's great. Do you have to prove anything on the religious

thing? We are atheist, so I guess we could lie. I am not above it,

if it will help my 2nd son any at all.

When my husband called the other day to cancel my 8 month olds most

recent appt (because there would be shots) of course the nurse argued

w/ him. They won't let the childen attend school here w/out the

shots. My 5 year old had all of his (of course, he has Autism).. but

there is no way we are giving these to out youngest son, especially

if there is any chance of this happening again. There is no history

of any Autism or anything else on either side of our families, so we

know it's the shots. Both of my sons are very healthy and have never

been sick for anything, so we were surprised to find this out about

my 5 year old. He is not even hyper, but have fine motor skills

issues and delayed social skills.

I will see if we can try to just spread the shots out and see what

happens.. don't know if that will work, but it's worth a try.

Thank you both for your help!

Hello,

When I first took my 6 year old ds for his shots I didn’t

do this and the ped bullied me and I ended up letting him get more shots than I

wanted. I always blame myself for not being stronger because that may

have been what tipped the scales and caused his autism. But I digress, I

found a book by Cave called What You’re Doctor May Not Tell you

About vaccines. There was a great schedule provided in the book along

with enough information on the individual vaccines for you to devise your own

schedule. We were asked not to come back to a doctor’s practice if

we weren’t willing to get the shots on their schedule. I was able

to find a doctor that was willing to let me vaccine on my own schedule for my 3

year old dd. She shows no signs of autism but probably has ADHD like me

and my 13 year old ds.

Hope that helps!

I work in the heathcare industry and MOST ped offices are fully aware

of the schedule put out by the CDC as an alternative. It is taught to

all new MD's and NP's in school.

Ask them about this.

Wow! Our pediatrician's office was very cooperative when I wanted to create an alternative vaccine schedule. I feel sorry for the Parents who have to deal with intolerance like that. It's OUR children.

Hi all,

Can I ask what shots people are referring to when they talk about

their kids Autism...

Don't know for sure about how my ds got Asperger's,

but when he was two months old he had his DPT shot, and a few days

later he was lathargic and just not himself (I mean newborns sleep

alot, but this was just too much), He was different.

My Ped. sent him to the hospital immediately and a pediatric nuero

specialst was brought in right away, and they had to do a spinal

tap, which was just about breaking my heart to hear him screaming.

They originally thought he had spinal meningitis. Thank God he

didn't, but they figure it was viral meningitis, which is still a

virus affecting the brains mengi, (I think thats right). But they

put him on iv and antibiotics and he was in there for 4 days.

Well, I have to say, after that, the pediatrician said he should not

get the P (which is pertussin and its for whooping cough) part of

the DPT shot anymore.

They can't be sure that's what made him ill, but it's very possible.

So, they figure why chance it? And I agree.

And there was rumour around that time that some of those meds had a

bad batch (but try finding that out)

My two other children (1 older, 1 younger, had all the shots and

they don't have asperger's)

So who really knows?

Good luck to all,

Sharon

I would say to definitely call your doctor.  I am on Orencia and can get a flu

shot because it is a dead virus.  I can't get the shingles vaccine because it is

a live virus.
