What is A1c?

Hi ,

The A1c is a blood test that gives an average of what the individual's blood

sugar has been running for the past 2-3 months. Some doctors want it below 6,

while other doctors are satisfied with it being 6.5.

You may want to start writing down questions for your doctor so that you will

have them for your next visit. Did your doctor schedule another visit for

you?

Are you on medication?

Have you talked to a diabetes educator/nutritionist?

There is a lot of information about diabetes. Don't let it overwhelm you.

Take one day or one meal at a time.

If the medication isn't working, talk to your doctor about changing it.

If you doctor won't listen to you, get a new doctor.

AND I

never think the metformin is doing anything for my numbers either.

It remains the same whether I take it or not. I went for my endo

appointment this week and my A1c was 6.8. It is always 6.8. It

never changes. My doc thinks this is fine. I think it could be

lower.
