Guest guest
Hi Group, Suzanne Chisum posted a question to the group about taking beta blockers. Here is what I can share with the group about them. I have taken Atenolol on and off since I was diagnosed with Chiari (Oct. 99). It does help the heart palpitations greatly. And, my blood pressure and heart rate also likes to bounce around, sometimes on the high side. Taking it keeps everything in check. I will warn you though that Atenolol makes you very tired and some days I feel I have no energy, but I continue to take it. I hate the heart palpitations and the BP/HR problems can get in the dangerous zone if I don't take it. At the present, I'm taking 25 mg., which is a very lose dosage. I'm not sure how long my regular doctor will leave me on it, but for now it's working. I can't say that it really helps a whole lot with the pressure in my head, but I can usually tell when my BP begins to climb because the pressure in my head seems to get worse. And remember, as with any drug, please check with your doctor before mixing medications. I have also begun taking a muscle relaxer (Flexeril) before going to bed to ease my neck muscles. This medication can also cause a drop in your blood pressure, but (for me) is o.k. to mix with the Atenolol. Hope this info helps.
