Hi all

Well, had my preop yesterday, RE told me what to expect, etc. We'll

be doing both a lap and hyst, regardless of what the outside of my

uterus looks like. RE said he'll also remove any endometriosis (of

which I have no history), polyps, etc. that he finds while he's " in

there. " The instrument he'll use depends on the size of the septum -

if it's thin, he uses microscissors, if its thicker he'll lazer it,

or use some other kind of new-fangled instrument I can't remember the

name of now. Said that he does use a balloon to prevent adhesions

and scarring. He explained to me that part is in the uterus, while

part is in the vagina.

Now, I don't know for sure whether I have a septum yet or not. But I

am curious....to those of you who had balloons, could you feel it

inside you? I'm just wondering what to expect in that area. Thanks!

Tina,

I wish you the best of luck, a succesful procedure, and a speedy

recovery after your lap/hyst on Tuesday. I am going for the same

thing on Feb 14 (a LONG 4 weeks away), so I will be anxious to hear

your full report of how it went and what to expect. I'll be thinking

about you this week:)

P.S. I don't know the answer to any of your questions else I would

have added something. Sorry...

Hi Tina,

Good luck! I'm sure things will go well for you. His procedures

all sound good to me.

What to expect with the balloon....it's miserable. Sorry, but I

don't want you to expect nothing and then be caught off-guard. I

had a balloon for 7 days. Basically, it's a urinary catheter with a

balloon at the end. The balloon is in your uterus, and no, you

cannot feel that part. The tube runs out of your cervix, through

your vagina, out into your vulva, and then the rest of the tube is

taped to your thigh. You CAN feel that!!! The tube is about one-

quarter inch diameter, latex rubber. Yellow. You can see it

through clothes, so plan on wearing either skirts or very very loose

pants if you are going in public. For me, the balloon made my

uterus cramp, like very bad period pain. It lasted the whole 7

days, and was only relieved by Lodine (which is like super duper

Advil). This is normal behavior for a uterus with a balloon in it.

Also, walking around kind of sucks, because you feel the tube " pull "

in your vagina/vulva as you move the thigh that the tube is taped

to. And sitting can be uncomfortable if the chair is situated so

that the tube is pulling. Basically, I lied on the couch for the

whole 7 days. I felt recovered from the surgery after 2 or 3, but

moving and walking made the cramps bad and the tube pull around, so

I just did office type reading work from my couch, played video

games, organized my picture albums, read and watched TV. The day I

got to remove that baby was the happiest day!!!

It's only a week, so you'll live. Just be prepared for the after

surgery with: LOTS of pads, laxatives, soup, ice pops, lots of food

you like, and things to do while sitting on the couch. And make

SURE you get paid meds. I had to get them to call it in, then walk

(in cramp-hell) to the pharmacy to get them. Bad Idea. :)

Good luck!!!!
