Dear Kristy,

Hello. Yes, you're probably right, another doctor/s are probably in order,

the one that I was seeing, told me that disability would be hard to get, but if

she would have done a little more to support it herself, I might have succeeded.

Sometimes I think that possibly maybe I could have done more to get them to see

my situation, but I figure if they are giving a diagnosis then they should

already be well aware of the difficulty of what having chronic pain is all

about, so maybe thats why I didn't push them like I should of. I don't know. Yes

and writing to my congress person is a thought. I just gotta get in gear and as

you know that is difficult, but I am working on it.

Well, they get this idea of sedentary work from one of my prior jobs as a

security guard and from my GP. When the GP first filled out my papers for county

medical services, he marked out the paper as unemployable for physical labor,

but employable for sedentary work. Which later on I contested with him and told

him that I could not sit for very long because of swelling and leg pain, I don't

know what he wrote this time on my new county medical report. I'm worried that

sitting will create a problem for me and I don't have any office skills, not

that I can't learn them and may have to. I don't know what's out there for

sedentary work that I can comfortably do, besides security work,( which means

sitting for long periods of time and extensive walking several times a night,

also there arent many security jobs in the area, there are plenty in Columbus,

but that's an hour drive from here.)

I have thought of going to the job place here in town and try to figure out

with their help what I could do. I do have a college ed and i know it sounds

funny, so why am i not using that? well going thru school and being sick was a

real bummer, but I made it and did well, but my health crashed right after

graduation and it took me a full year to finally gather the strength to get a

job along with psych doc's unnerving pushing. I had some interviews in the year

after graduation, but did not have any luck. I interviewed for a juvenile

detention center job, a job with salvation army's latchkey problem with kids

afterschool (guy was real creepy anyway) I cold called a mental health facility

here in town, they interviewed me, they seem impressed with me, they told me

they would send my app over to another set of people, and never heard from them

again. I called them and wrote them, no response. I even applied with the school

district for a sub position, but nothing back from

that either. It was needless to say very discouraging. Very. So had to do what

I had to do. I'm working part time and it aint much but its something. But I

can't do this forever and I eventually would like to use my education for

something. ??????

about a psychiatrist, I thought of going back into counceling with a new doc,

but the whole process sounds daunting, so I don't know. Since the old one kept

pushing me to work and didnt care about my physical pain. its hard to go back.

How do I go about getting my file through SS?

Oh and i just turned 39. sorry so long. have a good evening C

I do have one question though. Can you do any kind of sedentary

work? What did you tell the drs that make them believe this as

well if you truly (you know what I mean) can't do even that?

Also, how old are you? Yes, age matters. Do you have any

mental issues that a psychiatrist who is willing to support you

on can help with the work?

You also have a right to see your file at SS.

Claudette,

Disability doesn't have to be hard to get if all the drs are

supportive, if one has enough medical evidence to prove why they

need the disability (henceforth all the specialists to confirm

different diagnosis that are part of your health history).

Also, for a young person if a psychiatrist can prove a mental

disorder such as clinical depression that can help the case.

The thing of a security guard is one of the oldest in the book

of ideas of SS regardless of which dr suggests it, same thing

with ticket taker. B/c both involve sitting, problem is that

not all jobs have security guards that sit down, depends on the

company one works for.

Ask the psychiatrist (whenever you find a new one) to help you

find a pain psychologist. These are psychologists that strictly

deal with Chronic pain.

Start the appeals process again, but you have 60 days in which

to do it. And when you talk to your congresspeople and senators

tell them what is going on with your history and that you need

help getting disability.

They will ask for permission to see your file as well most

likely so fill out the release form they send for you to sign.

As for seeing the file from SS just let the case worker know

that you want to see it and find out what you must do to see it

and get copies if you have to. If they refuse let your

congresspeople and senators know that you need help in being

allowed to see your file and even get copies if you need to.

This is how you will find out what the drs said exactly about

you on the forms for activities of daily living. You can also

find out if there is stuff about your work history as far as

what employers have said about you.

B/c of your age I am going to recommend that you get back with a

psychiatrist and consult a Pain Psychologist. I think more info

from these two may help you get more of the medical evidence you

need.

As for sedentary type jobs, you know how to type. Can you

answer the phone? Look for clerical jobs where there is entry

level receptionist. Just so you can get an idea of what's out

there.

Just something to consider.
