Guest guest
fie on fickle eye difficultys ...be gone ! yesterday , brought my long postponed visit to an old friend ...my opthalmologist . My eyes look great ...the good news . They function with a mind of their own .... undoubtably an ms legacy , ..one there is little to do about . I was feeling a bit uncomfortable this time , a result of back pain and a week of battling to read the computer screen enough to finnish the english class ...and my normally sweet kind eye doctor was curt ..distant . Eventually , looking anoyed after reading the neuroopthalmologist report , curtly and scoldingly told me he disagreed , the prisms wouldn't help that had been recomended . I guess I looked a bit astonished , cause he again looked at his own measurement notations , the neuroopthalmolgy report , double checked my eyes in the machince yet again ..and announced , the measurement correction i showed would help now , was the exact oppisite the eye doctor had found would help last Jan . I busted up laughing at that point , and told him ...thats exactly how I've been trying to explain it to them ....it shifts so darn much ...overlaping in double and tripple immages , that last mins , hours or constantly drift back and forth ....but never never merging to just one immage for more than fleeting mins .... its much like the now very faint ringing that comes and goes in my hearing ....its frequently around the same pitch ....at times a flute note , that adds discordance to other music im enjoying ..fluctuating in intensity . if thats acm caused ( as the've guessed ) then this eye stuff much the same ...it too changes lots ...from moment to moment ..day to day . the upshot ...after my laughter was back under control ..he said , well ....you'll perhaps need to read less . .....hmmm , I'll be getting the addaptive computer equipment ( kersweil system ) instead i think ...enlarged BIG and with the computer reading it outloud ...I'll keep reading , lol . he told me the prisms won't help ...since its obviously not a stable state of overlap ,..and discussed the lightening bolt shimmers my left eye is presenting ...agreeing that they are most likely comming from a nerve or brain bit with ms on the attack ...or are occular migraine without headaches .....eitherway , the optic nerve isn't swollen at the back of the eye ...so nothing to do but try and ride em out . I am getting new glasses for both the computer and the outside world ...at three years post decompresion , my vision correction needs have changed quite alot . He also said he now recomends folks like me , who have strange eye stuff including numb /loss of blink reflex periods ....consider using eye wash drops at least a few times a day . He thought my eyes looked a bit dry , and thinks perhpaps when im engrosed on the puter writting , that i forget to blink as much . I think hes right , lol . when i wear my contacts these days , they get very dry , and I've got to use those lubrication drops frequently ...it fits the sjogrens pattern too , that I've been told I have other signs off ....my guess its all intertwined . we did discuss that my eyes cry on their own in bright light too ...it also gives me slight headaches ...so I'll continue to use photogray lenses . so .., what I came away with , was a reinforcement that Im doing all I can to keep those eyes healthy , and thank goodness tecnology is offering folks like me , who love to read , ways to continue doing so , long past seeing well ourselves ! sarah in paradise
