Guest guest
Yes, those of us who are very distal really cannot get protein from our food at all. We can't digest it, can't absorb it and so what we end up with is about 10% absorption from food. In order to get enough of it, we'd have to eat WAY beyond what we were eating pre-op. Like 10 steaks a day--ridiculous numbers of food. We do the predigested protein since no stomach is required and it takes up no pouch space and costs us nearly nothing in calories/fats/sugars, etc. The protein supps are of value for ALL RNY pts, but for many it's optional. You get better wt loss, fewer cravings, all that but they wont' DIE without them. Us far distals are in much more danger if we goof around with 'em.
