Guest guest
Hi all, I just found out I have fibromyalgia Friday. My Dr. said you have this, handed me a small pamphlet and wrote me a prescription. I know next to nothing. He put me on Topamax for the pain and I had to go to the E.R. ,allergic reaction, two days before I had a doozy of a panic attack ,and I have been in bad pain for two weeks now. My Dr. changed me to Lyrica today has anyone taken this? I really am scared, I have five children, two of them are small , and today it took all I could do to change the baby's diaper. I wonder what this is going to do to my children. I paint, hunt, and like to go outdoors. Now I'm thinking if I go hunting, get in a tree stand, and start having muscle spasms, I'm gonna look real cute when the fire dept. has to come haul my but out of a tree.Is everything in my life going to have to revolve around this? Please tell me no. I have so much to ask, and so much I could say, but I am in a fog and depressed so I don't want to scare anyone off, just someone please tell me more about this, I can't still help but think it is all in my head somewhat, and please overlook my looniness, I promise I'll get better.....I hope. Guest guest
Hi Nina! Welcome!! I'm sorry you are here for the reason you are here but you are very welcome. I am new on here too but not newly diagnosed. I've had Fibro more years than I can remember. First of all, this is NOT in your head!!!!! Sadly, this will affect your children, it will affect your entire family. You will have to work at finding new ways around it and new things to do with your family. But most especially you need to love them and show them they are so loved and important in you life even if some day you can't make it to their ball games or swim meets or whatever. Showing them how important they are to you and how much you love them is what's going to make the difference. I won't kid you, some days this is going to take all you have but it's too important not to do. I speak from experience here. And, yes your life will change, but not everyday will be like today. You will have good days and bad days. Days of depression, brain fog and pain and days of feeling like you can leap over a wall. Don't try it however, you'll be worse off after! LOL. One word of caution-on those good days do not overdo it!! You will pay too high a price later. Learn to limit and prioritize and delegate. Learn what your limits are and learn to say no. Learn to rest and take breaks, often. You will also find that others don't understand and will criticize you for limiting your activities but you have to learn also not to let them bother you. You know you better than they do. Many people with Fibromyalgia have reactions to many things, are hypersensitive to drugs, etc. You will have to play it day by day for a while. Eventually you will have an idea which direction you can go in and which ones to stay clear of. For me I seem to do very well with natural products and supplements while others may not. Holler anytime if you have a concern or just need to vent. ~Jennie

Guest guest
Nina, I am currently taking Lyrica and it has helped with my circulation problems in me legs and feet. I had some troubling sleeping the 2-4 week but have now adjusted and it has been a great help! I have three children and everday is a challenge but you can do it! I have had Fibro for 12 years and have had all three of my children during this time. The main thing is to take cre of yourself be sure to eat and go to bed when you need to even if it is just 20 minutes on the couch during Dora! I have been able to play softball but must be mindful of when it is getting to be too much for my body. Well got to go time to take the kids to school! Guest guest
I also am on Lyrica. I take 5-75mgs a day. I have been on it since July. I took neuronton before and was on that a month until I had to wean myself off of it because of the side affects. The lyrica really seemed to work at first, I began to sleep better at nights, more energy and less pain. The only thing I don't like about it is the weight gain. I don't know if it is fluid or what because I don't crave sweets and I watch what I eat. For the past few weeks I have been in alot of pain starting in my lower back and going down to my legs. I go to the dr';s on Friday so I will see what he has to say about it. I am hoping that it is not my body getting used to taking the lyrica and now it isn't working as well. I do still have more energy than before, but it is the pain that is hard to deal with. sheila
Guest guest
Hello Nina, you are so far from being alone, this group will prove that if nothing else. WE are all here for you and we understand what it is like to be in your shoes. I have been diagnosed for a little over a year now but as I look back I think I have had this for a very long time. There are some days that are really bad and others that you can tolerate and yes you may think that this is all in your head but it is not, it is real and dont let people make you think that the pain is not there, we know otherwise. The meds do have some terrible side effects. i have been on topamax for a few years now and when i first started it i lost 65 pounds from it, one good side effect , well i should say the only good side effect for me anyway. I was also placed on Lyrica and it did not help me at all, it made me gain a few poiunds so i stopped that drug right away, I could not go through gaining weight like when i first go t sick years ago. I gained a lot of weight back then and i refuse to do it all over again. hang in there and keep in touch with us, warm baths help me alot when my pain is bad so you can always try that if that helps. take care. -------------- Original message -------------- Hello Nina. I am newly diagnosed and new to the group as well, but your recent rough times and upset have struck a chord with me. I can assure you, you are not alone. I am panicky too, and although I don't have any baby/toddler children (my daughter's 9), I am worried about being there for her. Even more recently, I have started having trouble at work. I work full-time and am having great difficulty on some days/weeks managing it, so I am pursuing how to protect myself and still have a job. As a result, I am being ostracized, whispered about, and generally treated poorly by my co-workers. Unforunately, I work in a small-office environment, where I have a lot of contact with very few people. I feel like quitting and crying my eyes out, but I know that isn't the answer. It is difficult enough to try to get doctors and family members to believe in you. Anyway, sorry to go on a tirade.. I just wanted to tell you I am here if you want to talk off post, and this seems like a great group that we have found.
