Guest guest
My answer to this is that it can be bad enough to prevent you working. The lack of sleep is a killer for a start. Most people can hold down a job for a while but some of us can't. I managed to work for many years and then became too ill to do anything at all. You can probably judge by what your daughter does with her daytime hours. If she isn't doing any hobby or out enjoying herself all the time then I should think it's a fair bet that she doesn't feel up to work either. I hope your daughter can get sympathetic medical help. Painkillers may help her manage. Guest guest
I am so sorry about your daughter, She is so young. I have a daughter who is 34, married and has 2 kids. She was just diagnoised with fibro a few months ago. She has applied for medicare (medicade) and has been able to receive it. She was living in FL, then move to PA, but only for 8 months and now has moved back to FL, but she was able to get it at both places. I know she wasn't able to go to the best of dr's and didn't have much of a choice, but she was able to be covered. I don't know if having kids helps to get this or not, but her husband had been working and she was still able to get the medical help that she needed. As far as being able to work, that is hard especially when you don't sleep well at night. I am suppose to be taking on a new job in about a week or so and I am worried about it because I see what I don't get done around here within a day and sometimes I think I am crazy for thinking that I could hold down a job, but it is only part time and I am hoping to give it a try. Like people tell me I can always quit. I have been working for my son the last 11 yrs. helping him with his business and that keeps me busy, but that is mostly office work where I get to sit most of the time so it isn't too bad. I would try and look into what kind of medical, etc. that is offered in the state you live in. There has to be something out there that can help. > > Does anyone have any resources for her??? Guest guest
I think it is very important to realise the diversity of handicap that Fibromyalgia bestows on people. The doctor's remark that " curling up in bed is the worst thing for Fibromyalgia " may be true for some people, but after many years of struggling to work, then cutting down to part time, then giving up and just staying at home for a couple of years I am now in such a condition that all I can do is curl up in bed. I have many hospital appointments and going to those puts me in a flare for a week or so afterwards. I can only stand with the aid of sticks and can walk only two or three paces. This happened before I took to my bed... Not because I did. I recognise that this is not the most usual result of Fibromyalgia, but nevertheless it is a possibility. If your daughter's Fibromyalgia is really bad I would hate to see her pushed into doing something beyond her capabilities. Guest guest
Hi, I am sorry about your daughter. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia almost a year ago when I was 26. I was in a lot of pain and had a very hard time sleeping at night. Once the doctors put me on Elavil I had no problem sleeping, they also use this for the pain. It never got to a point where I couldnt work. My boyfriend at the time massaged my legs everyday and that helped until I got on more medicine. I think they caught it early so I was pretty lucky. They also put me on Guaifenesin (which is mucinex over the counter) and this really helped me with the pain. The downside on using this is that you have to watch the products you use. There is a list of products you can use while taking this medicine and if you use something such as soap, shampoo, etc that isnt on the list it interfers with the guaifenesin and cancels it out. They have stated not to try to use the guafinison without a doctors supervision. Once she gets a chance to see a doctor she may want to try this. I still have flare ups but I don't feel anything like I did a year ago. I also made sure I decreased my stress and worked out regularly which helped with the pain. I even went and bought several Yoga videos. I have also heard that Malic Acid and Magnesium helps with the pain. There were several websites I went to where they discussed how many mgs to take. I hope this helped. > > Hello everyone, > > I have a 21 year old daughter who was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia > about three weeks ago.
