Guest guest
No, you can't get diabetes from a blood transfusion. I asked my doctor about that once because I am a regular blood donor and I thought they wouldn't want my blood but they still do. :-) Blood Transfusion Hi I need to ask a question. I was asked by a girl that has diabetes in her family if you can get diabetes from a blood transfusion. I said I didn't think so. I know people with diabetes can give blood.Any one know? Thanks Pat

Guest guest
You cannot get diabetes from a blood transfusion. It is not a virus. It is a metabolic disorder in the genetics of the body. Some people are more prone than others. Angelia in OR ----- Original Message ----- > > Hi > I need to ask a question. It is my understanding that if a person with a healthy, normal-functioning pancreas would get blood that has higher than normal glucose levels, their pancreas would just make more insulin to compensate, much like if they ate a candy bar. I don't know what the restrictions are for Type 2's to give blood (either from their standpoint or the blood bank's), but as a Type 1, I cannot give blood . . . but that's because it would be dangerous for me, as insulin-dependent, to alter the volume of blood in my system (it would change the concentration of insulin in my system). Guest guest
I'm in the UK. When I was 13 (I'm 37 now) I had septicaemia (blood poisoning). I was told then I would never be able to give blood. Gail Blood Transfusion Mazdarunner@... writes: " A person with diabetes, on insulin cannot give blood in Canada " That's true in Singapore, too.
