What is the time frame to file for SSA? Was diagnosed 8 years ago.

I was just wondernig if anyone knows when it is too late to file for

SSA? I was diagnosed 8 years ago (week of my 30th birthday) and

have since had many ups and downs. Flares and remissions. Most

days lately I feel much like a friend of the family does who has

MS. We share many of the same complaints. From low normal temps to

suffering if the heat outside is just a degree or so over what we

can handle. Some days my hands dont' work. Some days I fall over

becuase my legs have gone to sleep with no warning.

I hadn't thought of SSA becuase, frankly life has been too difficult

as it is without adding the gov't into it. Between my

Kindergartener's busy life and my constant illnesses I't all gone on

the back burner. Thankfully I have a husband with a good wage that

we can live comfortably, not greedily, on. However that marraige is

rocky...surprise! because of my CFS/FMS.

Anyone know if its too late to get assistance? I can't work outside

the home because I can be too unreliable. I actually lost my career

job by being fired for haveing FMS. A month later I learned I had

CFS. I love to be active. My problem is I can't control the days I

can get out of bed and the days I can't.

I am very involved in my son's school. So much so that when I'm out

because of a flare or related illness I'm missed. My good days are

GOOD days. I ususally get 1 or 2 a week.

Anyway, when I was fired, I had company disability insurance which

they denied. Then they spent too much time going ouver their

options (keeping me on my toes) in the appeal. Even though they had

to have a documented reason for delaying the appeal, they simply

said there was nothing I could do about it.

Any help here from anyone? I need to somehow feel that I'm a vital

member of this house and can care for my son. But no business is

goign to hire someone who may or may not show up because she can't

physically rise out of bed one day or looks perfectly normal the

next.

you can sign up for SSI any time. But it good if you

have a doctor to help you,but sign up for it on your

own any time. becky

It is going to depend on how long it has been since you last worked. My girlfriend has not worked in 10 years due to her fms and she was denied by the judge for ssi and ssd. He told her she waited to long and she would have to try to go back and work for one year and then if she could not handle it she could try to file again. But I still think she would get denied.
