I, too, have vertigo. Mine is every single day. Some days it's worse

than other days. If I'm having an extremely painful (muscle) day, it

seems worse. I'm dizzy from the time I open my eyes in the morning til

the time I fall asleep at night. If I turn my head too quickly or

stand still in one place for too long, I get dizzy. It always seems

like either my legs or the ground is unstable.

Gountback ~

Vertigo is a feeling of dizziness where you feel like the room is spinning.

It's also called disequilibrium (I think). It is a very unsettling feeling.

It can be caused by getting up from laying down or from moving the head in

certain ways. There are a number of theories of causes ~ virus, calcium

deposits

in ears. I had about a 3 month bout a few years ago. This was before my

fibro diagnosis. Now, I still get it every once in a while, but unless it is

really bad, I take 12.5 mg of meclizine and get on with my day.

Hope that helps. Kathy in NY

I have too. It started with a " bang " 2 years ago on the 4th of July, where I

was so sick I couldn't stand. Then I have been living with it, and gone to

three different specialists since, and just had to learn what set it off. I

have found that if I lay on my back on my bed, and turn my head to the right or

move very fast I feel like I am rolling on waves. When I am standing or

walking, I have found that if I move my head to the right and/or back again,

then it hits me. Definitely worse when I am having a flareup for the first

couple of days.

I am waiting for an article that my birthmom promised to show me about vertigo

and fibromyalgia. The abstract was that people who have fibro tend to use their

muscles in their hips and thighs when walking that is different than people who

are " normal " . Some guy in the U.S. has been doing studies on this. Let you

know what I find out and the source when I read it. But in the abstract, it

states that 80% of fibro sufferers experience vertigo and many(such as myself)

have been to numerous ENT doctors who say there isn't anything wrong.

Liz - I'm *really* interested in seeing a copy of this article. I don't

have vertigo problems, but have ongoing problems with the muscles

surrounding my hips. Yoga helps, but often I have trouble just standing up

straight, especially after I've been in a car for a long period of time.

Thanks.

I was reading this and thinking that I don't suffer from vertigo; then I

rwealised that I probably do!. I haven't been able to lie down flat for 6 years

because I feel so odd.. I guess if I had to call it something it would be

vertigo. I also get it if I bend over to pick something up. Does that sound

familiar to anyone? I can't let the dentist put the chair too far back, I

feel too ill.

I'd love to see the article also. I have fought with fibro for so

long and have seen so many doctors who have dismissed me as " you have

anxiety and an inner ear problem - that's why your whole body hurts at

pinpoint spots and you're dizzy " . I've been to numerous ENT's for the

vertigo also. They never found anything wrong with my inner ears.

Gountback Here;

I have had this problem for almost all my adult life. If I shift

my eyes left to right or right to left quickly, I get dizzy.

Could this be it?

Let me know.

I have the same problem & was diagnosed with vestibular neuritis

(which is different than vertigo) and given meclizine to take for it

and some exercises to do w/my eyes to make it better and it DOES

work. When it is at its worst I can't walk across a room w/out help

but if I take the meclizine I'm fine. Also decongestants help me so

I take claritin D almost year round.

Yes shifting your eyes can do it. mine is that way and I also get this weird

little pulsing noise that goes with it-- the meclazine doesn't help me much.

when it gets really bad my dr. gives me a cortisone dose pac and that usually

knocks it out. My symptoms are also related to fluid retention -- If I miss my

fluid pill for a few days it gets worse.

yes it does sound like vertigo -- one of the " tests " the dr uses is to have you

lay down and hang your head back off the table to see if it makes you feel

dizzy.

I've had to go in for the cortisone shots too but usually only need

to do that one time at the beginning of summer.
