Hi-

I have had a very difficult time with muscle jerks while I am trying to sleep. They start when I start to doze off. They happen periodically throughout the night. I sleep for a few hours and then they get to be so bad that I can't sleep. It is like someone shaking you to get up. I feels like a wave of electricity has just gone through me. I am not suggesting that electricity is accutually going through me. It limits my ability to sleep. I feel drowsy during the day. I take neurontin and klonopin for this problem but it doesn't work. I tried requip. It didn't help. Have any of you dealt with this problem successfully. I have read the posts that addressed this problem, but it didn't seem as severe. Can anyone help?

Hi Margaret,

My name is and I have trigeminal neurlagia as well as the fibro which was recently diagnosed. I have had the body jerks for some time and have just chucked them up to the meds that i am on for my TN. but latly when i am lying in bed i do nothing but twitch and it drives me crazy, it makes it so difficult to try to sleep when your body or your extremities do nothing but jump off of the bed. I dont know what causes it but it drives me crazy and it stopped for a long time and now it seems to be back with a vengence( i think that is the word) but you know what i mean. i havent found anything that helps them stop.

hope you find something, if you do let me know.

Hi Margaret,

Yes, I have the same problem with muscle jerking. I had a sleep test

done and they told me it was Periodic Limb movement (PLM) and Restless

Leg Syndrome (RLS). I also have Insomnia due to these muscle spasms,

the amount of pain I am in and because I've always been a light

sleeper.

Knowing that the spasms were another facet of Fibro (sleep disorder)

made it a bit easier to handle. Before I was like, what is going on

with my body!? I also get these muscle spasms during the day and I

have tremors too (although I'm not sure if the tremors are related or

not).

I used to take Valium at bedtime to help with the muscle spasms and to

help me sleep. I am now allergic to Valium and have not found a

replacement yet.

Some things that I do which you may want to try are: 1) Heat, 2) Do

some light stretching about an hour before bed 3)Take 'Bed Time' tea

(by Trader Joes) or something similar 4)Use lavendar to help you

relax, 5)Try Melatonin, 6) Try meditations, 7) Don't do any mental or

physical 'activities' for a few hours before your bed time and 8) Keep

to a sleep schedule (in bed by __ pm and up by ___ am).

These seem to help reduce the amount of jerkiness and increase my

sleep time, however I still wake during the night.

Hope this helps!

hi

I have been having muscle jerks for over a year now. I have not

found anything to actually get rid of it, but some meds make it not

so bad.Maybe some relaxation exercises could help, or relaxation

cds? Stretching is supposed to be good for this. I started my

stretching and knee exercises yesterday and mine were not so bad.

But remember gentle stretches, hard stretching will only make you

sore. But other wise this is all I can tell you, as I have had little

relief myself. If you come up with a solution please let me know.

I am actually going to talk with my dr. about this tomorrow when I see her. I have the same thing.... crazy thing is it didn't start until I started taking Cymbalta about a month ago. Also I am having these crazy and very vivid dreams that are sooooo unrealistic but they seem super realistic while they are happening because of the detail. One of my reoccurring dreams is that I can't walk when other people are around. I fall down and can't get my legs to work, can't get up. Last night was the first night that I was able to think in my dream that "hey I think this is a dream" but I couldn't be sure because of how vivid it was. Literally I was in a store and I could tell you every pattern on every dish in the store and conversations with the people whom were in my dreams. It's strange. My husband says he is sooooo worried about me because I start twitching really bad when I fall asleep and it continues throughout the night. I am

waking up tired and I think this is a huge part of it. wrote: >> Hi-> > I have had a very difficult time with muscle jerks while I am trying to > sleep. They start when I start to doze off. Hey Becca! I am sorry this took so long to get back to ya. I went on my trip to Tahoe.... turned out to be a bit of a disaster. Driving there I ended up deciding to play a little cat and mouse with a snow plow.. the snow plow won. That night I thought that I should go out and start the weekend up right, with a few drinks, I ended up getting my purse stolen. The worst part of my purse being stolen was that all of my medications for Fibro were in there.... Cymbalta, Trazadone and Ultram. I was so stressed out I started to have a bad flare up and nothing to take to calm it down. I spent the next 2 days in my hotel room trying to relax. The more I laid there the worse I felt and well... ended up deciding to leave early because I began throwing up blood. Dropped off my girlfriends and headed straight to Kaiser. It turns out that not only did I have a small tear in my spleen from the accident, I also had another ulcer

starting. What a blast that trip was. So I am home now obviously and most recovered from my trip. Car is in the shop being worked on.... I did quite a bit of damage to it. :0( Oh well, we are all alive!!!!! So hopefully you won't hold not getting back to ya soon against me. Ugggg! I met with the Dr. before taking off for Tahoe. She didn't seem to think that the muscle jerks were related to the Cymbalta and were more just like RLS but in my legs and arms. Though this all started when I began taking the Cymbalta. She suggested that I decrease my dose of Cymbalta to 1 pill every other day and the 2 pills on the other days. I have done that and the jerks seem to be decreasing. As for the dreams, she did say that this was unfort. one of the side effects of the medication. Last night I had a dream that I dropped a glass shower door on my toe and amputated my left large toe right off. Then I

went fishing and caught a huge shark and had to try and figure out how to make it back across the raging sea to get back to my reality game show where I was a recovering alcoholic... oh wait, I barely ever drink. I don't know... my dreams would sure be fun for someone to analyze. The week I got back I had an apt. with my Rhumatologist who recommended that I stopped taking the Cymbalta if I wanted to and to stay on the Ultram at the original dosing that I was taking before I started the cocktail of all of these other medications. So I tried that, but guess what? My energy level plummeted and I felt like crap. So I went back on the Cymbalta after a week of being off of it and now I am thinking that the org. Dr. might not have been too off base. The 2 Ultram per day isn't cutting it any longer. Now I am stressed about the Trazadone though... I have tried on nights when I am completely exhausted to just go to bed without

taking it, and I can't fall asleep to save my life. I end up getting up and taking it later so that I can get to sleep. I wish that they had just kept me on the Ambien and the Ultram... that worked great for me for 2 years without any changes being needed to my meds... all of the sudden I switch to Kaiser and am told that I am abusing my medication. I hardly think that taking 2 Ultram 100mg's per day is abuse when I haven't asked for an increase in my dosage for 2 years. Plus they didn't want me on Ambien for sleep b/c it was addictive.. well guess what? So is Trazadone. So long in the short of it is that I pretty much have 2 different doctors telling me two different things and have the green light to go with whichever Dr.'s recommendations that I see fit. I guess that is good.... Baker wrote: You too... Have a terrific trip!c turner wrote: Becca: Going to see my dr. this am. Until then, take care of your self. Baker wrote: I too have started having extremely vivid dreams and reoccurring ones as well. Now that I think about it, it really started when I began Cymbalta too.
