It could be that her insulin needs to be adjusted. She needs to keep records of her bg's for several days, then show them to her doctor. hugs Eunice
Guest guest
Welcome to the group. The first thing you should do is take the diabetes class - you and your wife. You can learn so much in one evening. My HMO didn't even require that you be their patient to attend. Just remember that blood sugar relates to food, insulin, and activity. Your body needs sugar for energy, it needs insulin to break down sugar, and obviously activity so that the sugar doesn't turn to fat. If any one of those things goes awry, then she might lose control. Also, illness (like the flu) greatly affects blood sugar. I can't cover it all adequately in this group, but If you'll dedicate one evening to taking the class, then I think you'll come away with a level of understanding that will make you more comfortable helping your mother-in-law manage her disease. Guest guest
J- It's great you're concerned. I think the education suggestion is a great one. Any number of things could cause her to get out of sync, weight gain/loss, change in eating or exercise habits, illness, stressfull events, lack of sleep, etc. Any chance she has had any increased forgetfullness or confusion? Does she keep a written or electronic log of tests, meals, insulin? Good luck, Jim > In a message dated 8/30/2004 1:19:16 PM Eastern Daylight Time, > teddymines@y... writes: > The question I have is this: if > she tests at regular intervals, and takes sugars and insulin > appropriately, how could this happen?
