According to The Complete Book of Food Counts by Corrine Netzer . . .

1 " think slice of a 10 " diameter watermelon = 152 cal., 3 gm. protein,

34.6gm. carb., 2 gm fat, 0 cholesterol,10 mg sodium, 2.4 gm fiber. I

personally love watermelon and after reading this thread yesterday I had to

go and get some . . . and it was wonderful!

Those of us who are very distal have to stay away from watermelon and many

fruits. The carb level is way too high as is the sugar level (basically one

in the same). The fermentation is pretty bad too. Causes great gas!

Gas with or without any kind of surgery is a communication from your

body that the food you ate wasn't a good choice or eaten with the right

combination of foods for you. (This is really individual and we all react

differently. Even somebody with the same surgeon and surgery will experience

post op life very differently.) I never knew this pre op and I always felt

gassy and crummy when I ate. (My body was speaking loud and clear, but I

wasn't listening!) I wished I'd learned to listen to my body much earlier in

life, ya know?

Quick question. How about watermelon. I have been eating it all weekend

it is my favorite. Here is my questions. I seem to be able to eat alot of

it. Is it because of the high water content? And does watermelon ahve

alot of calories? I would hate to eat soemthing bad for me!

One thingI've learned about WLS is that the only constant is the

inconsistency! Everyone is different in how they react tot he surgery.

I am 16 months post-op proximal RNY. Watermelon is one of my

favorite foods and I seem to be able to eat unlimited amounts of it!

It was the same way last summer. Never had any trouble with it and

the weight came off just fine. After reading the posts from others

about watermelon, it seems that the folks with the distal RNY's have

a lot more trouble with watermelon and other very sweet fruits.

Anyhow, I love my watermelon. :))

I'm 22 months out and have lost 215 lbs. I went from 335 to 120. I love

watermelon and eat it almost everyday. I also eat unlimited quantities with

no problems.

Sue, How distal was your surgery? Us very distal folks have trouble with a

lot of fruits/carbs/fiber etc. Anything that can ferment!
