A looooong time ago there was a discussion on the list about whether the

song puff the magic dragon was about an autistic child or not. I said not.

I'll try to find it in the archives for you!

Actually, I heard a radio interview iwth the guy who wrote it. He was

waiting for his friend at his friend's house, and his friend wasn't home.

This was a childhood friend, and the songwriter started thinking back to

when they were boys, and he grabbed a pen and wrote this song about the

journey out of childhood while he sat at his friend's kitchen table.

His friend was in the band that recorded the song.

But when I heard it at the end of refridgerator mothers, it was still

spooky!

Yeah...I saw one of the members of , , and on a TV show

once a long time ago, and the host asked him about that song and the

drug theory...that was back when drug culture was so much a part of

popular music that it was a fairly reasonable question...I thought,

listening to the host listing off lines that " related " to drugs, that

it was a bit of a stretch to see that in it, but ya never know...

The guy laughed and said that it had nothing whatsoever to do with

drugs---that it was just about being a kid. :-)

But it is interesting to think about it in line with autism...I do

that a lot with songs...that one called " Bring On the Rain " ...another

called, " No Place That Far " ...there are a lot that hit home in that

regard...
